Injury RTC reporting

I am usually fairly up to speed on this stuff but wanted to ask for up to date advice.
I tried to report an injury RTC to the cops today to be told they don't need to know about it.
My understanding was any injury RTC has to legally be reported? Has something changed?

If on a road or other public place then you only need to report it if you do not produce your insurance to the third party.

If you produce your insurance at the scene, all details are exchanged then no need to report to Police.
