No idea if this is already posted - it just popped up on FB.

Really is outrageous, bordering on police state in London if you have a nice car these days.

I wonder which equipment the police were using to ensure that whatever Db the limit of the order was, was breached. I do like evidence, I'm old fashioned like that.

Whether it was drive by, or stationary.

Still, at least the officers involved were highly skilled in understanding cars, noise etc.

some chap pulled over in Knightsbridge driving what looks like a new or nearly new Maserati

the police accuse him of being antisocial because his car back fired.

he tried to explain that was the blip on the downshift and they were having non of it.

He pushed the police to explain if they knew what the different between a down shift and a back fire and they said no, on camera, repeatedly.

Yet they still were qualified to issue him with a ticket for back firing.

fking muppets

time wasting

and frankly disgusting abuse of power without the skills to back it up.

I'd be tempted to put 100 supercars together and go through there and actually break the noise abatement limit or whatever load of st they had pandered to for the residents.

Plenty of police enforcing it though, given the claimed national shortage.....

How is it abuse of power?

The relevant law is here...
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regul...
and
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regul...

So they are acting well within the law. The police use a sound recording db device so if it did go to court, they have the evidence to produce showing the noise level.

EDIT: Sorry just watched the video and they are acting using a PSPO. I must admit I've not dealt with a PSPO area before so cannot comment on the laws. Either way, camera guy is a twit.

Presumably all the knife crime in London is sorted now then. 3 Constables to go after a few noisy cars?

no WAY did these people have a sound recording device. IF they did have they would have mentioned it in the 11 minutes he was pleading his case.

It is an abuse of power because they guessed, assumed he was guilty (he was innocent) and they don't understand that cars blip on downshift.

They also lied about the cause - they clearly wrote on the form that it back fired, when it 100% DID NOT BACKFIRE.

They weren't qualified which they admitted to, to technically say what the reason for the noise was.

Yet they lied on the form.

I'm assuming you're a policeperson due to your name on here - surely mate, surely you can see this is completely taking the fking piss. If not, it's no wonder everyone hates the police these days.

If the car was standard and he wasn't revving like a nob, I'd be very surprised is a PSPO fine would hold up. Again though I've not dealt with PSPO's before so unsure on the full laws surrounding it.

Presumably the car is type approved? If he’s modified it to hell, then fine, but driving a standard car shoudn’t have a problem. I’m not a big fan of silly noises on downshifts, but they appear to be legal.

Is having a burble on overrun now illegal? I seem to have missed that bit of legislation. They aren’t saying “you exceeded a noise limit” they’re saying “it backfired”.

Am i right in thinking that PSPOs are being used to target anti-social drivers such as those who crawl around London revving the nuts off their cars?

From a quick google this seems to be the case. It could be has was sat revving in which case fully deserved. Who knows though, as always the video starts after the initial offence.

Either way it doesn't appear to be an abuse of power if the officers generally thought he was deliberately creating excessive noise i.e. revving. If he wasn't and it was indeed just a down shift, then I would imagine an appeal would be successful.

Oh, look, another ridiculous PH torrent of outrage from ill-informed crybabies looking for an excuse for some plod-bashing. Who're you wannabes gonna call when your 1 litre Fiesta ST "replica" gets scratched in Farmfoods car park?

Not correct

this is quite old, the area had been put under some sort of short term anti noise order because of bellends thrashing their lambos all over the place

this guy had been reving the nuts of his car in the area most of the day, at the time this was originally posted there were loads of vids of him giving it large and driving like a bellend

they had enough of his piss taking and nicked him

Yeah, fk the residents. It's our human right to drive up and down the road revving our engines to make up for the lack of sex.

at no point did anyone on the video (including the police mention revving an engine)

they repeatedly stated back firing.

Let's stop making st up to fit our own opinion shall we.
