average speed cameras A40
Discussion
I use the A40 on a near daily basis, and I believe that the cameras are operational.
I too sometimes go way over 40 in certain sections, but I always ensure that my average speed doesn't exceed the 40mph + 10% threshold.
If you are one of those drivers that stick rigidly to 40mph on the speedo (37-39 in reality), please could I ask you to keep out of the overtaking lanes, particularly when there are cars behind you who wish to make better progress.

The 10% on the average speed limit is discretionary. You can be done at 41mph. Calibration issues aside,
the police would have no problem doing you at 43mph or 44mph if the coffers are a bit low. I know someone who received a NIP at 43mph in a 40mph ave speed zone.
Only a few roads average speed 40mph and for not very long. Is it worth risking points for worth 3-5mins of slow driving?

I have so many times seen cars, bikes, vans (and even trucks!) going way over 40mph...
Me too; I suspect they think if they have sat at traffic lights since joining the A40 then they can go faster than the limit and the average speed will still be <40 due to the time spent standing still.parabolica said:

That's exactly it, at least for those who understand how average speed cameras work.Forums | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
