Dash cams, soon be compulsory?

Would need memory cards and dashcams with reliability and liability guarantees then.
That would be 'our' problem. They would probably love it if we signed something saying we would ensure our dashcams were working at all times and then it turned out it wasn't working after all.'Computer says no'
Next!

Can't see it ever being compulsory, insurance companies have had black box policies for ages which seems similar.
Yes, but for youngsters especially, black box policies are cheaper. With regards dashcams, it could be that insurance companies will charge much higher premiums to those that don’t use dash cams?zetec said:

Already required for some Policies in the US - Particularly where they cover a high risk individual eg convicted of Drink DriveI'm all for anything that reduces the chances of high risk drivers re-offending, and would be happy to install one if it saved me on my premium too.

Hopefully never, and instead made not admissible as evidence like in Germany or Austria.
In Austria it's illegal to possess a dash cam, never mind use it. In Germany, they can be used for insurance purposes in limited circumstances but faces and plates shouldn't be recorded, and they're illegal to use in Luxembourg.ElectricPics said:

Now look at Google Streetview in those countries. (I think you mean Liechtenstein, rather than Luxembourg)
Oh, wait.
No, I meant Luxembourg. Street View is just a series of still photographs stitched together and has faces and plates blurred (most of the time - but blurring can be requested) which isn't at all the same thing as CCTV surveillance so it meets privacy requirements in Germany and the like.Oh, wait.

I guess they would just reject any claim if you didn't have dashcam footage of the event.
That may be problematic. I've had several dash cams in my time driving. But the one time i was in a bad accident the impact caused the dashcam to reboot before it had time to save that particular segment.
