Hi guys,

I recently went on a tour around Europe and got flashed twice in Monaco and was wondering if anyone else has actually received anything through the post? I wasn't doing a ludicrous speed but it's been sat in the back of my mind for a few days now.

The exchange of details with Europe has been around for a while now.

You may or may not get fined .

Monaco isn't an EU member so there's no mechanism for them to obtain your details. The only cross border arrangement they have relating to motoring offences is with districts in southern France.

You got out of second gear in Monaco? I’m impressed.

I got back from a Euro trip 3 weeks ago and got flashed 3 times to my knowledge, maybe more. 2 in Germany and 1 in Lichtenstein. Haven't had anything yet but fully expect to.

I'd say the flashes from Germany will result in a ticket being issued, a few of us on here have received them over the last year or so. I think they are small fines but they need to be paid to save grief later..

Never seen a speed camera in Monaco. You'd probably crossed over into France. Monaco is so tiny and several roads cross into France and then go back into Monaco. French police often set up speed traps on the border crossings into France (especially on the main road going out of Monaco up the hill to the A8). Wouldn't surprise me if they've put a fixed camera there now.

I got flashed driving in Monaco, luckily it was by a rather pretty girl with a smartphone.
I felt quite amazing for a few minutes but couldn’t show it as my 11 year old daughter would have brought me down to earth pretty quick...

I don't recall ever seeing one. 50km/hr blanket limit as well?

It was up in the hills heading towards Nice. I'm not sure where abouts the border lies at that point but it was just as I came out of the network of tunnels.

EDIT: a quick look on Google maps suggests that I was just outside of Monaco, should I be worried then as I was officially in France?

They were all just over the limit, all 3 on sections where the road had dropped to 50kph and I wasn't paying attention. Lichtenstein should be 30 Swiss Francs, not sure about the German ones.

Just hoping there are no others from my time in the Alps where the speeds may have been a tiny bit higher!

Sounds like you might have got flashed by the one hidden behind the cliff edge on the Moyenne Corniche between Eze and Nice. Monaco has no speed cameras, you very occasionally see police there with radar guns but even that's very rare.

In terms of whether or not you'll get a ticket, you'll have to wait and see. I got flashed a few times around that area since the law changed and never got anything, others have been less lucky.

Was there a blonde bimbo riding shotgun? Then could have been just phone camera flashes.

Or maybe no. I thought fines sent through the post were not enforceable?

Sounds like where it was, it was a down hill section with 2 lanes. Fingers crossed.
