Driving up the A1(M) last night between j8 and j9, I saw a Police car on blues haring up the outside lane some way back. Cars were moving over to let him by, as he got nearer I had a safe spot to pull back into L2 so did, but the twunt behind me (and in front of the Police car) did not. Just an oblivious moron.
After a while the Police driver gave up, and used the hard shoulder at 80+mph for the remaining mile or so to Letchworth, so he must have had somewhere to be.
It didn't affect me directly, but it rather annoyed me that someone could be so oblivious (or selfish, if they had seen it).
Do the Police often give out tickets for this sort of driving? I need some schadenfreude to restore my faith in society smile

Unlikely, they are more concerned about getting where they need to be.

I saw someone do this on a dual carriageway a while back, but he eventually darted quite suddenly in to a relatively small gap in the left hand lane, despite having already passed several larger gaps. When he passed me it looked like he was fiddling with the radio so I think he'd probably failed to notice the ambulance with all it's lights on sat right behind him for the last mile or so, and pulled over as soon as he realised.

Happens all to often.

We have sent NIPS out for careless driving because of it.

Not long ago we were on blues trying to catch a drink driver. Got held up on a dual carriageway. Bit of the bull horn and the driver pulls over giving us the finger.

Colleague has stopped the drink driver so we stop this women.

She apparently didn't see the blue lights or hear the sirens for a couple of miles and took offence to my colleague using the bull horn.

Do you get a nip if you refuse to cross the white line at traffic lights?

No, but you will if you cross the line and it has a red light camera on it.

Maybe the guy was doing us all a community service by stopping the "queue jumper in a flashy car"?

That would be cancelled on appeal.

After a lengthy and massive hassle process. Put simply I would not move and please don't give me the straw man argument of a loved one in the ambulance as it's tiresome and would not change my position. I'll do everything I can within reason except deliberate traffic violation. They are all professionals and trained to deal with it.

It's annoying but I'm more focussed on getting to the job in hand to do anything about it. If I happen to encounter them later I'll possible remind them that blue lights and a siren mean I'm responding to an emergency and they should do their best to act accordingly.

Even in the past few days I've had a little st on a bike try and block my path when I was on blue lights (twice, different times of night too), and also when responding to another job I got flagged down near the location while on blues, and thinking it was connected stopped to speak to them, and it was just some pissed woman demanding to know our collar numbers. And I couldn't just drive off to the job as she was so close to the car I'd probably have ran over her feet.

Some people are just oblivious to flashing lights and sirens. Then you get the others who see you from a mile away and take appropriate action. I want to give them a medal when I see that.

to be fair that was my understanding - the powers that be can be quite intransigent about stuff like that

AIUI the rules are still only if a Police Officer asks you to proceed through

I tried to appeal as the Ambulance was clearly in view, i was advised that I should not have crossed the line on Red and as such no dice

I got a red-light NIP 2 years ago for doing exactly this; wrote in my appeal online when I received the NIP and it was cancelled 2 weeks later after they had reviewed the footage from CCTV; took all of 5 minutes to write up my appeal wording.

The appeal process was fine, the answer was less than ideal but hey ho
