Anyone know what "EBAYUKLIMIT" is? I have a paypal/ebay account but havent used it for at least 3 years if not more. Randomly had an email this morning which has charged an old Amex card which is no longer valid with £160.09. Spoke to Amex and they advised as the card was a trusted card on ebay then it would still be charged, even though the card has long been replaced with a new one. Cant seem to speak to paypal as they want everything emailed so have fired off an email to them to dispute it.

Originally I thought it was a scam but the paypal email header on the email is correct and the charge appears on my amex bill and if I log in to the paypal site.

The ebay email says:

Description
eBay Seller Fees
Subtotal £160.09 GBP
Total £160.09 GBP
Payment £160.09 GBP
American Express Credit Card XXXX-XXXXXX-XXX03 £160.09 GBP
Charge will appear on your credit card statement as 'PAYPAL *EBAYUKLIMIT'
Payment sent to support@ebay.uk

Have you tried to log in to your eBay account, to see what activity is listed?

I'm pretty certain that is nothing more than a phishing email.

EBAYUKLIMIT is short for "eBay UK Ltd."

This is payment of an eBay invoice for account fees. Check your eBay account usage history and your email for any invoices for account usage fees.

If you haven't been making any chargeable sales on your account, check that your account has not been hijacked and used for fraud.

Phishing email, or password re-use issue whereby your email and password has been compromised elsewhere and then tested on the major platforms - ebay, paypal, twitter, instagram, facebook etc.

Have a look on - https://haveibeenpwned.com/ if your email has been compromised. Worth signing up for for future alerts.

The charge is on his card.

I also received a very similar email earlier today - outlining eBay’s fee for stuff I sold on eBay last month. Includes the following:

You sent a payment of £xx.xx GBP to eBay UK Limited

Charge will appear on your credit card statement as 'PAYPAL *EBAYUKLIMIT'

Sales would be more pertinent. Have you ever sold stuff on eBay?

My guess is you cancelled your card / card expired when outstanding fees were owed to eBay and they are legitimately trying to recover money you owe.

You should contact eBay / paypal.

Go to eBay. click My eBay > Summary > Account.

Then you may view your invoices.

Most probably a scam. I get them all the time. Hover your mouse over a link and I bet it doesn't resolve to a true eBay email.

I've just got a voucher offer from genuine eBay in my inbox and it is sent from: eBay <ebay@reply.ebay.co.uk> Even the general privacy unsubscribe emails come from rover.ebay.com

I am really struggling to believe that AMEX would honour a transaction on a card that is out of date and invalid.

If they did that to me, that would be the last time they ever had any of my business.

Mind you, I dont really use it much these days so I really should close it thinking about it.

So why is that? You think you should get out of paying for stuff because the card expires?

My iCloud backup just failed as I’d forgotten to update my expired Amex card. Quickly and easily resolved but had to be done.

Check your eBay sold history and your eBay account (third tab along on my eBay) - might be hidden there?

This is crap. Paypal dont want you to talk to them they want it all automated and via email. They emailed me this morning saying:

We've completed our investigation of your claim and concluded that this is not an instance of unauthorised account activity. Your claim has been denied for this reason.

If there was a billing agreement linked to this payment, we have cancelled that.

To see the details of this case, log in to your PayPal account and go to the Resolution Centre. If you'd still like to report this account activity, please contact eBay directly.
