Hi,

Do GMP X5 cars have a forward facing on board camera system which can ping you if you are exceeding the limit whilst they are stationary?

Or do the officers need to have a hand held speed gun sticking out the window?

I passed one which was out of view behind the crest of a steep A-road and may have been slightly above the limit when they came into view. They were parked on the opposite side of the road, with the car facing towards the road.

Although the road is near a motorway junction so they may have been parked up waiting for a call / something particular.

Thanks,

ANPR is probably the answer. Big clumsy-looking things.

I have not heard of a built in, in car speed camera.

If it was an X5 then that sounds like either a traffic or firearms car and that would more than likely have a calibrated speedometer so they can accurately monitor the speed of vehicles they are following but that can't monitor the speed of a vehicle that is passing.

For them to monitor your speed whilst stationary, it would have to be a hand held speed device out of a window etc.

Hi

Thanks.

I will hope they were just making some day notes then at the convenient spot.

What about a pre fed VASCAR check?

Don't some forces have the ability to use loops in the road?

Worth pointing out that if the officers both independently considered your speed to be excessive, they could still report you.

If you were only "slightly" over the speed limit, I wouldn't be worried about this happening, though.

If you were significantly "slightly" over the speed limit, then maybe you should watch for the post.

Worth noting (although not UK), but built in, automatic speed detection kit exists. Most police cars in New Zealand and Australia have them, front and back facing...Have done for over 17 years, but the technology hasn't reached us yet...

Considering UK Police used cassette tapes and fax machines until fairly recently it may still be a while.....

Nottinghamshire Police trialled a front bumper mounted Gatso sped detection/camera setup in the late 80's, at one point IIRC it was mounted to a Citroen BX which trundled along snapping you as you sped past. Sneaky......
