I'm looking for some advice please people, I have just received a parking fine for parking in a private car park with big signs up saying 'free parking' and no obvious special instructions, apparently I should have entered my registration number into a terminal located on the site ? Well I didn't see any terminal or signs telling me to do so, they want £70.00 for this fine or £40 if I pay before the 24th of August.
Just to clarify this is a private car park and this company is not working on behalf of the local council or authority... Anyone else had anything to do with parking eye ? Thanks in advance

The easiest way to resolve this is to go back to the place in question and ask them to cancel it as you were a genuine customer - assuming it is a pub or shopping facility that tend to have this system with PE.

I've had similar with PE. Appealed via their site and the ticket was cancelled.

So if you're sure you're in the right send in an appeal.

Do what Steve suggests first.
If they prevaricate. put the problem on pepipoo (private parking forum)

Ok thanks everyone, I went to Aldi who's car park it was and they said that if I could provide a receipt showing that I had bought something they could get the ticket quashed, I cannot provide a receipt so maybe a phone call to Aldi customer service might work .... Aldi own the car park and parking eye extort it .... Sorry manage it
This was the roundabout where I turned left at

The sign was on my left when I was looking to my right for obvious reasons

If you can show you are a regular customer at Aldi, their customer services team will get these cancelled - 0800 042 0800 (customer.service@aldi.co.uk) - a scan of any bank statements showing Aldi purchases usually suffices.

They just need the reg and PCN number and then will confirm by email it is cancelled.

Failing that, I have heard that Parking Eye have a tendency to drop any cases that go as far as POPLA for Aldi store locations.

I can't see why Aldi or anyone would use car parking management unless they thought there was abuse of it.
Flaming local Sainsbury's have slapped in parking management as users of the local hospital were constantly all day bay blocking/abusing the supermarket car park.
Similiar to commuters abusing hospital parking in other areas.
I've not seen anyone come up with viable alternatives to these 'parking' management companies yet.

Without dragging it off topic, but a token operated barrier works perfectly for genuine users.
Collect a token with your receipt, drive out, no bother.

Why bother with Aldi’s car park and conditions, just park on yellow lines, someone’s drive, wherever you choose.

Not on many busy car parks, that is a very small solution and unworkable in many cases.
Do you think it is viable on motorway service areas and busy town centres or car parks with a short run in without impeding the free flow of traffic ?
As you say a topic for another day. Also anpr doesn't break as easily as barriers.

Just goes to show, no matter how big the sign people will claim not to see it.

First do not admit to being the driver at the time, go to pepipoo and Moneysupermarket forum for parking and speeding tickets, have a look at the discussions there, and proceed accordingly.
Good Luck

Was about to say this but thought it may have been mentioned.

One of the reasons I pay for majority of my things by card.

Can be very helpful in this sort of situation.

I am wondering if the OP was in fact a customer of Aldi's at all or just using their car park?

As said above check your bank statement any proof of your purchase that day and it will be fine. They have this in one of our local Aldi’s to prevent non customers taking the piss. The terminal to enter your ref number is normally on the way out where you pack your shopping.

Unless of course you weren’t a customer.

Alright I know that I have been a tool for not looking properly at the signage at the car park, these pics were taken today because I honestly didn't see any signs at the particular bit of the car park until I looked for them more fool me, I have just spoken to Aldi customer service and they said that if I could provide proof that I'm a regular customer there they would see if they could get the fine quashed.... I normally only buy a few bits from them and more often than not pay cash BUT have found three transactions from them on my bank statement which need to be emailed to Aldi customer service, I also have a receipt for a pressure washer within the last four months hopefully this will satisfy them ..... Parking eye are basically modern highway robbers and there was also other misleading signage further down the road offering free parking

Of course they are, of course they are. Aldi contract it to Parking Eye, so Aldi have decided they want to monitor parking on their land.
