Direct Line sneakily increased volutary excess after mod
Discussion
car is a 12 year old A6 avant V8. 20 years No claims and no claims or convictions.
Phoned up 2 weeks back to add rear tints to the car, which were done at the weekend, which increased the premium by £14. Fair enough.
also questioned about running audi alloys which were not original factory fitment (19" audi with summer tyres v's 18" audi with winters), and a towbar and was categorically told they don't need to add to the system, so it won;t affect premium.
received the updated documents through in the post today, and the excess has jumped from £300 to £500. it mentioned the tints, but doesn't say anything about the alloys.
luckily i called on my work phone so was able to listen back to the call, and there was no mention of the higher excess through the 13 minute call.
gave them a call today and they are "looking into it", and will call me back within a few days.
surely adding tinted windows to the car shouldn't increase the excess by £200? The tints were only £175 for the B pillar back.
anyone else noticed them doing similar?
was previously happy with them until this, but if they insist on it i'll take the business elsewhere, along with my home insurance which is due at the end of the month.
other question - i paid for the Green card - for 8 days in france. They are saying they don't send anything for this now. Anyone know if this is true?

Your certificate will give you foreign use cover to a legal minimum, so that fine to produce if you are stopped. All the green card does is increase that cover to the same as you enjoy in the UK. No need for any documentation, the cert doesn't say what cover you have in the UK so you don't need documentation showing you have topped up your cover abroad. All you need is proof that you are insured abroad, and your cert gives that. stut4 said:

You know it probably isn't them trying to be underhanded and more likely that the call handler just simply forget? it happens, there is so much info they have to remember it can be forgotten.Phoned up 2 weeks back to add rear tints to the car, which were done at the weekend, which increased the premium by £14. Insurers aren't out to get you!
just surprised they want to increase it by 60% just because i have rear tints, and they are already charging an increase to the premium for the privilege.
on the second point - the greencard arrived today, so they were obviously lying when they said they no longer send them out. starting to lose faith in them!

I’ve never seen a Green Card. Can you post a photo of it pleaseon the second point - the greencard arrived today, so they were obviously lying when they said they no longer send them out. starting to lose faith in them!
I was being facetious. There is no way an insurer would send out a Green Card for a trip to Grance, nor would you pay more for the cover.
The Green Card’s purpose is to ensure you have the minimum amount of insurance in place fornthe country you’re visiting. All EU member states have signed up to a agreement that waive th need for a Green Card

All insurance certificates have a multi language load of writing on them that covers off the Green Card requirements.
A Green Card will only be issued if you are visiting any of the areas below in green, none of them in blue require one.

The OP May have paid more money to get himself some fully comp cover in Grance, but that would be an extension to his normal motor insiracme amd have nothing at all to do with a Green Card, which still won’t have been issued.
