So, going for a day out to the east coast, came off the M62 to join the A614 towards Holme Upon Spalding Moor.
All pretty normal until I began to leave one of the many villages, can't remember which one. Usual NSL roundels on each side of the road, and beneath them 20 roundels!!. There were also repeater 20 roundels attached to wooden posts hammered into the roadside. Clear open country road with excellent visibility. No road works, no buildings, no turn offs, nothing. What happens with conflicting speed limit signs?

Probably some local on a power trip. I'd go with NSL. A reduction to 20 on leaving a village just seems to be complete bcensoredks. For a speed restriction to be enforcable, a Traffic Regulation Order would be needed.
