Car hit whilst parked
Discussion
Hi folks,
I’m currently on holiday and have been informed that my car has been hit whilst parked in my space behind my house. A neighbour whitnessed it and took photos of the damage and also recorded the reg number of the car who did it. They didn’t stop or leave a note. I have seen the car before and believe they visit my steeet quite frequently.
I’m stumped as to what course of action I should take. I don’t want to be out of pocket with my insurers through increased premiums in the future but I also don’t want to pay out of my pocket to repair something that’s totally not my fault.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Jamie

Meh, went through exactly the same. Police recorded it, did nothing.
Rang my insurance company, explained it all, gave them witnesses details. Got a call couple of day later, was put in touch with his insurance company (son driving), they handle it all very painlessly. Refuse accident management offer, took car to their local approved garage (used em before, liked them) got their s
t box hire car, 5 days later car back, all sorted. No problems.
Annoying, but really no biggie. Hell when my wife tried to write off two cars it really wasn't a big deal either. Insurance sorted it all, paid the excess (small enough so I wouldn't loose sleeping over It), and based off her recent renewal will prob cost us £1,000 over 5 years. Bargain!
Edit:worth noting, for my non fault...

As you don't want it to effect your insurance and you think they frequent your area. Try and catch a word when you're back. I don't know the damage but a parking bump is normally nothing super expensive.
If you can't catch a word, report it and let insurance deal with it. Or the other option can you live with the damage (sorry don't know if vehicle is new or old) if you don't want your insurance to go up a bit

My golf got hit whilst parked 1 month ago driver drove off no witness's damage of about 2k so I feel you. Going via my insurance cant be bothered with the extra hassle of trying to find the git that did it. That's why we have insurance for stuff like this. Sorry you had this but at least its only small damage.
I was side swiped hit and run by an old builders Transit that jumped a set of roadworks traffic lights in Somerset a few years back, putting a dent in my OSR door - no dashcam footage but my daughter who was in the car got the reg no.
Passed it to my insurers, and made a police report. Police did bugger all. Insurers fixed the door, and then using the legal cover we pursued the Transit driver for over 2 years before liability was finally admitted (up until this point they denied even being there, not just the collision) .
All ended well, excess refunded, and to Hastings Direct credit my premiums weren’t affected for the 2 years of chasing.
Funnily enough, the key to to whole thing was that the van had blue livery painted on in a distinctive shade, and there was a small streak of this blue on the door mirror of my Honda from the collision - the door dent was from the grey plastic bumper so left no mark

my personal experience, two fault accidents it did, you seem to be picking up up on semantics , which is a pointless exercise.
Hang on, your argument is that his premium WILL increase from a non-fault claim because you had two fault claims that affected yours?OP, it may not affect it at all. I had a non-fault claim. I don't know whether it actually made any difference but I don't imagine it did, as my premium dropped and my NCD was maxed out already.

I walked in the local cop shop, spoke to uniformed officer and showed pictures of both cars with tape measure against the damage. Then i/we filled out a statement.
The next day, plod knocked on the owners door and he fessed up.
His insurance company collected our car and provided a courtesy car whilst it was being repaired.
So, in our case, they did something.
