Early last week, late at night, I believe I may have been caught speeding on the motorway through an area of roadworks.

The overhead signs took it down to 50, then 40, so I slowed accordingly. Once past the roadworks I sped up slightly as I saw the NSL sign ahead and like an idiot ended up triggering a flash from a camera on a gantry signed 40.

Annoyingly I drive the same stretch every day and have done for the last three and a half years. I've never seen a camera on that gantry flash before, nor can I find from pepipoo etc anyone who's ever been sent a NIP from it. Turns out it's a HADECS3.

I hold my hands up, I was going a little faster than I should have been, so not trying to justify or defend my actions.

As I've got a clean license I've been bricking it, so decided to call up the speed ticketing office of the Police force responsible for the camera.

Obviously didn't incriminate myself, but the person who answered offered to check their systems and couldn't find any record of my car. At all. They checked two systems apparently, and no record of my car on either. They reckoned that if I'd committed an offence almost a week ago it should be on there.

Today is 6 days since the "offense", so have I been fortunate? Or do you think there's still a likelihood of something coming through.

I'm assuming that being a HADECS3 the camera will have sent it's picture straight to the force, where OCR will have created a record for my car pretty much immediately. As long as the camera or network aren't faulty etc.

Anyone else got a better understanding of how the process works, and if I'm likely to get anything through?

Wait 14 days; Only then will you know for certain. (Depending on car ownership) - Not much else that can be done.

Assuming you are the registered keeper (on the V5)... or it could take longer.

Yep, I am.

I'm probably being hopeful here, but I found the following on
https://www.speedcamerasuk.com/hadecs-3.htm

"Recorded speeding traffic offence data is sent from the camera system via a data network to an evidence receiving and control unit (ERCU) in a remote and secure office, where the offence viewing and decision system (OVDS) decrypts and then processes the violations for prosecution and when required creates a court file."

The person who helped with my enquiry couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't be on there after 6 days, and the above backs up my assumptions about it recording offenses pretty much immediately so I've got literally everything crossed!

If you'd said I've got 9 points, so I'm bricking it I could understand, but you have a clean licence, it's only 3 points at worst, maybe an SAC.Chill out a bit, life's too short mate.

You phoned the police about a camera flash and gave your registration, but "didn't incriminate yourself" smile

Recently installed hadecs 3 cameras seem to go through a calibration phase following installation where there's lots of flashing.

Why were you 'bricking it'? It's a minor transgression that thousands of drivers are guilty of every week; it's not as if you're guilty of killing anyone, just driving a bit too fast in the wrong place - possibly.

I've been bricking it because I honestly can't recall what speed I was doing. May have been 45, may have been in the 50s, I just can't remember, so it's the uncertainty that's doing it. So SAC and £100 fine or 3 points and FPN isn't so much of a problem. However, I only need to be going 53mph or above to get 6 points and a hefty fine.

I'm getting married in the next few months and trying to pay off that and the honeymoon, so a fine for speeding plus the extra insurance costs for the next 5 years is a bit worrying.

Had 3 points come off my license around 7 years ago and remember how much extra the insurance company loaded my policy.

Been trying to keep my license clean ever since.

Again, entirely my fault and I'll have to take whatever's dished out, but hoping nothing will come from it.

66 mph or above = court proceedings.
65 mph or below = fixed penalty offer or course.

Jeez relax man....

It's only a small fine and a few points... not sure where you get the idea you'll be paying extra insurance costs for the next 5 years from but in my experience of 5 points on a SP30 it made not one bit of difference...

I'd be bricking it about getting married and the countless years of additional expenditure.... that's going to cost you lots !!! smile

Very true.

Sorry, got myself a bit wound up about it as you can probably tell.

Just a lot of stress in other areas of life at the moment with the wedding, work etc so adding this on may have just made me snap lick

Where the speed signs red-ringed or not? (Red ringed speed signs on motorways are pretty easy to see).

Yep. Which is why I don't understand how I ended up speeding through it, but obviously did.

Not trying to defend my stupid actions, I should've been more careful. I'd been doing 40 beforehand as it was the second gantry with 40 posted where I got flashed.

So yep, bang to rights if anything comes through.

OP, just checking you've seen this? You'll almost certainly get offered a course (if anything happens), at worst 3 points. So as everyone says, just chill.

It's all changed now though hasn't it?

https://www.evo.co.uk/news/18773/uk-speeding-fines...

So under 53 is 3 points + £100 or SAC
Between 54 - 65 is 4-6 points + 1 weeks salary

Either way, going to try to put it at the back of my mind for the next 7-8 days until the required 14 days (+1) are over.

You appear to misunderstand the thresholds for SACs, fixed penalties and court proceedings.

Check AGT's post earlier in this thread, or one of the hundreds of other threads in which all is explained.

No. It hasn’t. That Evo article, and many others like it, are inaccurate and very misleading. The article was written by a “journalist” who simply doesn’t understand the process.
