Hi everyone,
Asking for a friend. His car has the 1.0 3 cylinder ecoboost engine, it is between 3 and 4 years old but he took an extended warranty on it, I'm not sure of the warranty provider but I may have more info tomorrow. Essentially it overheated the other day, he stopped when the warning lights came on. A check at a Ford garage found the expansion tank had actually split, piddling coolant about and leading to the block overheating and headgasket going, warping both head and block = new engine (the headgasket issue appears to grace online forums with semi-regularity and normally involve a new engine).
Now the T&Cs in the warranty exclude damage caused by overheating, bummer. Now as a new engine is likely to be many pounds I have a few thoughts that I admit are entirely clutching at straws.
Firstly can you categorically say it happened this way around? As if the headgasket went first (common issue) the overheating and pressure could have easily split the tank; this is essential as it would appear that headgasket failure IS covered on the warranty. Interestingly if I'm reading it right then he would have to pay for a new tank... bit cheaper than an engine though.
Secondly they said, verbally unfortunately, that it lost half a tank of coolant when they drove it from the garage car park to the bays... Can it be proven that said damage did not occur at this moment, meaning negligence on Ford's part?
Thirdly, how does one pursue the avenue of goodwill, as the warranty may well be a Ford one as it had the caveat of servicing at a main stealer, which it has been bang on time every year.
All straws I know but I'm hoping for some helpful advice.
Many Thanks
