Evening all,

Had this van come up our driveway last week.
Luckily, the beady eyed wife was in and ask him what he was up too. Gave her some cock and ball story of looking for an industrial estate.
There isn't one .... this is a residential house.

Anyway, caught his plate on the Nestcam, FP17 OYN, a quick search comes back NO TAX / INSURANCE.
Seemed odd to me a 17 plate, not the usual basket case.
Had a few thefts in the village of late, usual things, tools, hanging baskets etc, at night, but none as brazen as this,
Reported to 101.
This has really spooked the wife and me to be honest, we have quite a few trees in pots, buxus, yew, bay ..... worth a tidy sum at a Saturday boot fair.
looking at .GOV site, it seems you have to give a valid reason for releasing the data, which i'm not sure they will. I don't want to lie and spin
a fake story. Any ideas? I just want to know if he's local or the van is stolen, in which case i'll call the real boys in blue.

Thanks all,
Mark
(P.S. wrought iron gate is now locked with a large Abus lock whenever out, 4x 400w halogen spot lights up the drive that turn night to day 10ft from the property,
Nest cameras (soon to be updated to something professional) at front and covert cameras at the entrance and a gravel drive front and rear, house alarmed)

Seems a safe bet that the RK isn't the chap driving it. The RK is probably completely untraceable, if that's the van that actually belongs to those plates, rather than a clone.

I’m guessing the same, but would be good to let the police know of its wherabouts if stolen or to let the owner know it’s been cloned

you maybe right about casing

I had a dodgy looking pair come down our street in a BMW, though they might have been looking at a house for sale nearby and wasn't happy with the look of them (i know, i know).

They were looking upwards, probably at the alarm systems and generally looking about which I at the time put down to just looking at the houses around as well as the one for sale.

My house was broken into and the STi was stolen the next day (well, next night) frown

So keep on your toes, they wont leave it long if they decide to do it (though being clocked has probably put them off)

Have you done this? Told the police of this van's activity, I mean.

I would call them and tell them now, just a 101, can't hurt and at least puts it on their radar.

Plates are probably cloned.

Did the driver have an Irish-ish accent?

reported to 101, have a crime number, thought it not of high importance to dial 999, what do you think?
No irish accent, "just a fat bd" .... according to the wife.

If the plates were cloned, i'd have thought it would be taxed and insured as to not get pulled?

Since he was there last week, no, it's not emergency...

May well have been at the time they were cloned.

Do you have a local pc who is the rep for a neighbourhood watch group or safer neighbourhoods team?

They can be quite switched on as to what’s going on locally. You might not be the only person who has seen it.

Thanks Dave, good call.
Our small village has its own Facebook page and is full of great elderly people that keep an eye, I posted on there, but didn’t think to contact the local PCSO.

Sorry.

Just make sure everything is locked up and put away for the next few days.

I also think, because they were spoke to, they won't bother.

We had an alarm but never used it, started to after the break in.

Wasn't all bad news, I had return to invoice protection on my 3 1/2 year old Impreza and got £22k back which then bought my carrera smile

Maybe they were just lost.

The tax/mot issue could be an admin problem, or maybe they’re doing deliveries on the cheap.

We live in a similar location and it’s very easy to get paranoid when something unusual happens.

CCTV doesn’t help, because you see things you’d never otherwise know about. That’s not a criticism, we’ve got it too, it makes my OH feel much happier to have it so fair enough.

So be aware, take sensible precautions, but don’t let it make you paranoid because likely as not it was entirely innocent and even if not he’s been seen now so less likely he’ll return.

If the gravelled drive they're on in the photograph is your land, and they were there without permission, there may be a case for trespass.

In such circumstances you can use DVLA Form V888 to request the keeper's details: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/governmen...

This requests that you include a photograph of the vehicle on your land, which you conveniently do have.

Were they English? Irish? Other? The type of van suggests Amazon Logistics, their drivers are truely awful at finding places even in plain sight, witnessed guy once drive straight past a company then proceed to ask me where said company was despite having a huge sign on the front of the building.

My initial thought is scum. They can afford new vehicles cos they get money for free by stealing, and also it will probably be in trade or whatever hence no tax and no registered keeper. I wouldn’t bother pursuing it there will be no proper owner. I would think since they’ve been seen they’ll just move on.

Definitely a casing. You don’t enter a gravel drive and expect an industrial estate at the end. Especially with sat nav so readily available on mobile phones etc.

Keep everything locked up, and have an escape route if the alarm goes off, keep mobile phone on you at night, and always dominate the stairs.

Thank you all so much, really appreciate it. Good call Joe, that's the form I was referring too.
I'll give it a go with your suggestion.
