I'm just afraid if I don't try and do something...somebody will die

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-45605528

Trouble is someone might die whether or not she does something
A speed limit doesnt prevent people dying - you only have to look at crash map

The road's speed limit is set at 40mph (64kph), but then turns to 60mph (96kph) before reducing to 30mph (48kph)
Either someones testing their calculator or Is Wales about to change its speed limits to metric?

Reducing speed limits is often no better then using a plaster for a gaping wound.

If the road is dangerous surely the road needs to be redesigned.

Well, one could argue that the new road surface has done the trick.

I think he's saying she should not use a facetious argument.

Looking on crashmap, it does look... lively.

But nowhere near as bad as the bit due east, Thomastown area.

Ah theres a bend in the road and the speed limit is 60mph shocker.

If people weren't so gormless and knew how to drive a little bit + they didnt fit ditch finder tyres then they would be fine.

On watching the video tape, there is a hell of a bump on the road on a slight right hand bend which could destabilize a car/bike at speed. when the tape was made the weather was poor with reduced grip....which would add to the risk

I can't blame her for wanting "something" to be done, and £5000 is peanuts when you take into account what a crash would cost the authorities/local business/etc if there was a fatal crash

She did accept that lowering the limit would not stop people speeding if they wished to do so

good luck to her campaign

Or she could move to an inner city close where the road would be safer....rural roads are the most dangerous......if driven by idiots.....we had a fatal crash on our road a few years ago, where the female driver lost control of her car, on a 40 mph section.....road dead straight, and managed to hit an Oak at the side, two feet either side and she would not have killed her best friend ( rumour control claims she "swerved to avoid a rabbit"..... ihave lived on the road for some 14 years.....never seen a rabbit on it.....maybe the alcohol she drank earlier in the evening didn't help

The road is now a 30 mph....and a young tosser managed to crash into my hedge, luckily for him the hedge was very thick and absorbed a lot of energy, still his mate who was not wearing his seat belt in the back was thrown out of the car. If he had lost control and hit the telegraph pole about a foot sooner (before hitting my hedge) they might all have been killed, he was on his phone texting doing about 60 mph before he lost control. speed limits help only if obeyed, and then if driving according to the conditions etc...

She could always move FFS!

I realise she lives there, but why exactly is it her problem?

Or does she have nothing else to do? banghead

Part of the problem IMHO - Multiple speed limits that appear to be randomly displayed - added to the lack of driver attention we commonly see, a lot of drivers have no idea of what the speed limit is for the stretch of the road they are on.

South Wales seems to have mastered the art of random speed limits that seem to have no bearing to the roads they apply to...

You have to wonder if the councils have just shaken a dice to choose a speed limit..

If there wasn't the current obsession with limits & enforcement, people might be more likely to chose to drive at an appropriate speed for the conditions.

Just because a road has a 60 limit doesn't mean you have to do 60 all the way down it, or is driving so dumbed down that we need a separate limit for each corner?

Lowering the limit won't stop people exceeding it, just as lowering the drink-drive limit doesn't stop people driving drunk. It just means we have more criminals.

From the video it looks like the camera car actively brakes midcorner causing the front end to dive, speed reduction isn't what's needed it driver training.

Our council...Carmarthenshire, would probably put in speed bumps. They seem obsessed with them. Many are in sensible locations but I cannot see why many are in place. I now think about my routes when in the low clearance car as it means too much stop-start style driving. One has even been place within the lined area for a speed camera! I bet that camera now has zero speeding catches! I hope they don’t move it somewhere else instead.

She's probably just another one of those idiots, who live on a 60 limit and makes a point of pulling outright in front of fast moving cars so that she can "tut" at them and do little wavey handy up and downy movements out of her drivers window.

There is a dip there on the bend there and coming back the other way there’s like a double dip

Ditto the above; Seems like there is an anti-tank ditch in the middle of the road. I'm sure that does wonders for the grip of a rear axle at 60mph if the driver fails to notice; But then filling it in would probably cost £5001, So they will go for the limit instead tongue out
