DVLA VED TIME LIMIT
Discussion
Thank you. I completely forgot about taxing/sorn-ing a car that I very rarely use.
I was sent a letter fining me for failure to tax. I assume DVLA have an automated system that checks and fines after a certain date. I'm sure that I've been late with it in the past but have never been fined. I have no issue with paying the fine as its my fault.
However...this time there is an absolutely mental neighbour in my road who has taken it upon herself to check every car in the street for Tax and MOT. For some daft reason she is convinced that an international gang of car thieves is dumping cars in our road. ...She has also invented a series of incidents in which I have apparently woken her up with my loud exhaust.
I'm just trying to figure out if she dobbed me in before the frozen sausages come out
! paranoid I know

Penalties are not issued within the renewal month, so long as you renew within your renewal month, you're okay. The automated system starts issuing penalties around 6 weeks after the start date of your renewal.
If you find yourself in a position where you have elapsed more than a month so cant renew that missing month, & a penalty has not yet been received, ring DVLA ASAP, get put through to arrears & pay the missing month.

Thank you Kev, i was 6 weeks late so that figures the system nabbed me rather than the ghastly woman across the road. I'll put the sausages back in the freezer. She did mange to get a van nicked and is on the case with a rather sorry looking 205gti 1.9 that belongs to a local fella.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
