Speed limit changes and repeaters
Discussion
Couldn't find an answer to this elsewhere.
A section of road near to us has just been changed from 50mph to 40mph. It's a section of country road (no street lights etc.) between two 30 zones (leaving a housing estate at the edge of a town, and entering a village a mile and half later). The contractors have changed all the repeaters from 50 to 40, but they've removed the large 50 signs showing the change of speed limit at each end, and not replaced them with 40 ones. Are the repeaters enough, or does there need to be a proper "change of speed limit" sign?
(Edit: No, I haven't been caught or anything, to be honest there's nowhere you *could* put a van on that section of road, it was just an idle query).

Maybe the 30 is going to be increased to a 40, but they haven't removed the 30 signs yet </flying pigs>
LOL, it's one of the few times that a 30 in the countryside is justified, just before the 50/40/whatever-it-is-now starts, there's a sharp bend of doom and a hump-backed bridge that has caught many a muppet out in the past!Edited by sim72 on Monday 1st October 14:09

There needs to be a terminal sign - 99% of the time it'll be a pair, one on either side of the road. But no terminal, not enforcable - at least not for speeding. They may try a careless driving ticket or something (I am not a copper, but I do know road signs and the regulations). A section of road near to us has just been changed from 50mph to 40mph. They have recently reduced the limit from 60 to 50 on a section of dual carriageway near me, but one of the signs marking the beginning of the limit is obscured by the support for a bridge. It's only visible when you are literally on top of it by which time your focus is normally ahead. The other sign on the near side is a bit more obvious if not obscured by a convoy of HGVs. I thought that when a limit is changed that they had to put up signs saying something like "new speed limit in force" as most locals already know the limits & can focus their attention on the road.
