I wonder what happens when travellers violate traffic laws from minor to serious ones like drink driving,if the plod get to them how do they prosecute them if they have no fixed address and even if they do have one in some remote place do they for example obey a driving ban if it was handed out?

Very strange that some people get away with almost anything and the Govt cuddles them while you and I may be in serious trouble if we forget to renew the MOT by a couple of days!

You obviously were not around at, or to remember, the Dale Farm eviction. Not many cuddles given out there.

Dale Farm seems to be an exception and that too seems to have taken a long time get them out

But I personally know them invading our local cricket pitch and ruining the square by driving all over it not to mention using the rear of the club house to st!

took the plod quite some time to get em moving

also another site had around 27 un-taxed vehicles, did the plod take action? No they just asked them clear off as they were understaffed to seize all those caravans

That was an unusual incident for its time and it was a long time ago.

This, surely, is at the very heart of the "traveller" "life-style" arrangement in this country?

They are not called "do-as-you-likeys" for no reason!

The eviction was October 2011 so not really a long time ago.

I wouldn't call a £100 for no MOT serious trouble...plus I don't know anyone who would give a ticket for it being two days out...

Travellers are one of, if not the most over-represented group in the criminal justice system.

In my experience, it’s a misconception travellers will drive around without insurance / a valid licence etc.

Hmmm. I stuck the number plates of the Traveller's cars into the DVLA checker as I had a pint overlooking the (occupied) village green a few months ago. Out of 4 cars, one untaxed and 3 plates were not recognised by the system. So yes, I suppose in this small sample, only 25% untaxed, the rest were on falsies.

Thames Valley's finest clearly had no issue with it.

Who me ?

Really hard to gather as AFIAK it has not been recorded as statistic on crime reports or CRO. From my personal experience a really high proportion will have a criminal record once you properly identify who they are. I will not get into why that could be and if it is their fault.

As for insurance they are mostly insured (A lot seem to have "trade" or Arum etc) they usually have licences. The provenance of car ownership can often be a very frustrating and pointless wormhole.
