Due to circumstances I now have no nearside door/wing mirror on my car. Whilst I decide how to resolve or allow insurance company to process a claim, wanted to check over the "legislative" needs to have a nearside mirror.

Have a perfectly functioning offside door/wing mirror and rear view mirror but zero on nearside other than shoulder check.

Must have either as a minimum:

Driver's wing mirror AND rear view mirror.

Or

Driver's wing mirror AND passenger wing mirror.

Some cars used to come without a passenger side mirror. Ferrari Testarossa comes to mind as when I was a kid my Dad took a model back to the shop because it only had one mirror. The Ferrari expert in the shop then explained early models only had one mirror!

Wing mirror? Rear view mirror? Terminology is wrong. Statement is also incorrect, if a later car. (I have not seen a wing mirror for years).
Best to refer to the website I quoted.

There was a time in the 70's where all the mainstream cars only had a driver door mirror (plus interior central)

If you have an accident then the insurance may be invalidated if they deem the car isn't roadworthy.

I see an increasing number of cars being driven around with both side mirrors folded in , might be something to do with living in Devon and holidaymakers, but do wonder at the legality or standing if they swiped a cyclist etc....rolleyesconfused

Are they Volkswagens? My bloody Arteon does this regularly - they fold in on their own while I'm driving, and stay there. At first I tried stopping and restarting, but it never helps so I just take it to the garage - it's less than a year old. It's a weird feeling driving without door mirrors.

How many cases of this can you cite?

So, he means that the first option is OK? (Whatever you wish to call the external mirrors).
It is illegal on cars post Jan 2010.
And before anyone asks, I cannot cite how many have been convicted for no passenger side external, rea view mirror.
OP asked if it was illegal, I posted the website.

Appreciated. Affirmed my belief. Just cling filmed it and off to work we go.

Oh, just to add to the debate over mirror naming .......is it a visor mirror or sunscreen mirror or even a vanity mirror or ? biggrin
