Should the laser detector on an Origin B2 be triggered by police on a motorway bridge using a hand held speed detector or could they be using some other method of speed detection? Car was parked side on on top of the bridge, one policemen out of the car but I think he might have been looking the other way! I was not speeding of course just thought I would have had a warning if he was doing speed checks.

Only if he was actualy using the laser. Plus of the chap was facing the opposit direction then the detector would not pick up the laser scater anyway.

I was wondering why he might be looking down the road would they not look for traffic heading towards them or is it normal form to do people as they go away from them?

Gone - are the Landrover's VASCARS too? If it was a Vascar I assume he'd have to time a car from two fixed points like bridge to bridge? Also if it was a VSACAR would they not come after you?

I have disconnected my laser detector on the B2 as by the time it lights up, you will have been pinged anyway.

They don't always get a reading off the first ping, though.

Yeah I guess the laser is pointless in that respect but at least you would know or should know if they pinged you with a laser. In this instance I did not get any warning at all so it might have been a VASCAR as gone said. If thats the case don't they come after you?

Yes mine very kindly pinged, to tell me I'd been lasered a couple of years ago.

At least it takes the agonising wait away - you know you've been caught.

MKI eyeball has had 100% detection rate in recent years.
Has failed once in the past but just got a producer off the Trafpol who were very friendly and decent.

My b2 keeps giving me the laser alert whenever it feels like it, apparently it's due to "noise" according to origin, so I had a ferrite collar sent out - fitted it on the power cable and still nothing.

Anyone else getting erroneous laser alerts?

Most Roads Policing vehicles are fitted with VASCAR or Police Pilot.

You only need two fixed points logged into a prefed distance in the VASCAR head.

Those points can be anything and not just bridges. It could be a change in road surface, a dead animal squashed on the road, a particular road marking like an arrow painted, a piece of debris on the central reservation or hard shoulder.

Having passed the selected pre-fed distance and the operator happy with his/her timing/operation of the time switch, merely a record on the statement form or his/her notebook being 'notes at the time' reference the registration number and the speed are sufficient to dispatch the NIP and section 172 notice! There is no requirement to chase and stop the culprit at the time for detected VASCAR offences.

If the operator has a colleague to corroborate this all the better but it is not a requirement to have someone else there. 1 person and a VASCAR are enough to gain the evidence to put before a court.

A bridge is the ideal place to operate a VASCAR check because it is high, you can see a long way down the road and not many people see the Police vehicle until it is way too late because they have poor observation!

Aber Liebchen ...

Most drivers should be looking ahead und not up at bridges... ist why the sudden spot of talivan on bridge or continuous look-out for one ist so darned dangerous.

They shoul be observing for numpty who looks like he may just change lane without indicating... und you get clues from position as well. If your eye ist straying up to bridge - you miss this.

You could be at correct und most legal speed too....

Ist a dangerous practice really. Should be on you police vehicle only look-out spot und then follow to judge better....

Ist more interesting than sitting mit bag of doughnuts zapping cars willy- nilly.

Ist certainly less dangerous as doughnuts tend to explode jam everywhere...

Presumably the B2 works in a similar way to my Road Angel Classic. If the Traffic Pol form an opinion that you are speeding then they will target you and pull the trigger to fire the laser and try and get a reading. My understanding is that it is down to the skill of the operator whether this takes 1,2 or 3 goes, then the detector will go off. They shouldn't indiscirminatly target everybody, so if it dosn't go off they might not have pointed the dammed thing directly at you.

When it does go off it's not necessarily a three pointer, if your speed is up and reasonable, the 10% + 3 thing, maybe a bit more if you are lucky they might move onto the next suspect taxpayer.

Ah Mrs Cat. Your COAST has at last let you down!

Did no one ever tell you to check out bridges as you approach before hurtling underneath?

To chose a line which is not underneath any of your so called 'kittens' who may be intent on dropping something through your windscreen!!

Oh! Does it? So much for COAST advanced observation then

Looking for danger which may have consequences for a fast moving Swiss cheese is dangerous then

How do you zap a car's willy - nilly? especially with a doughnut?

Maybe thats the answer. Jam on your willy - nilly!

MRS CAT!

BRIDGES ARE DANGEROUS PLACES! YOU NEED TO CHECK THEM OUT BEFORE YOU GO UNDER THEM. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HIT YOU FROM A BRIDGE!!!

donut. NIP, breeze block

Maybe you should stop looking in your mirror as you travel forwards looking for the numpty changing lanes!

That is extremely dangerous too you know!

I glance und decide. I also check out those timetables as well. But should still be mounted where we can see you und modify.... How do I know you are not parkied up on the pavement Ist not legeal

My kittens are nice kittens....they only pull faces at talivans Und their Playmobil Gatso... ist always having accidents - to it und not the little cars.. Und you would not want to know what they did to the little Playmobil BiB mit the hairdryer Ist wonder he ist still smiling..... After all that glue putting him back together....

Ist in that split second.. that ist what caused the accident for some. Und there are a lot of bridges on M4...... nicht? Und Northerners are much better at COAST now.... 42% of the safest drivers apparently attended the Lancs course.... per local paper....

But we are also much better at looking up timetables

But you prevent my beccoming a fondue all the better if actually on the motorway Und copping that lane hogging numpty...und the twazak who misses his exit - und decides to reverse from L1 back to it....

Mine did the same thing. Ferrous collar no good.

Origin changed the whole unit in the end. (Dave is a good guy).

You said it was dangerous!
Glancing off bridges is though, especially with the breeze block planted through the windscreen!
So you have accepted your observation links have now been improved by the fact that bridges should be an important part of your driving observation and plans Even if you only glance at them !

Those Northern kittens put up timetables where and when they are going to bomb the carriageway then! Thats interesting !

You do not know if they wer on the pavement! But if you were adhering to the limit or using 'COAST' efficiently, then it would not be any concern to you where they were parked or what they were doing

Iv'e never seen that on the factors for collision stats collation.

Cause of collision = Split second

Lots of bridges on all motorways. I suggest you take more notice of them from now on !

By slowing the buggers down so their split second lasts just that little bit longer than yours

I have no idea what a car's willy - nilly actually is!
Is it something specific to the Swiss?
