My neighbour who is a bit mad and sold his house twice in the last two years but failed to find a house he likes to move t, has erected a fence along the front of his driveway.

Someone mentioned he may need planning permission for this is it is as high as 6ft at its highest.

Any advice would be welcomed as its made our driveway very dark and the planted border.

any fence in front of " the furthermost place affronting a highway" (in front of the house) needs planning if over 1m high.and 2m if behind the front of the house.

Off the top of my head, i think you only need planning permission for a fence next to a road if it is more than 2m high?

That is my understanding, too. A phone or e-mail to the council is the best way to an answer.

If you moan about the fence he will probably just take it down and replace it with a hedge which doesn’t need planning.

He will struggle as he has a shiny sealed driveway not a lot of room between his garage which he stores his 208 in so have to be a very skiny hedge.

Its a horrible plastic thing>

His wife really struggles to reverse out the garage now and ends up nearly in the two neighbours cars opposite.

They really are both a bit odd but we have always tried to get along with them but they get something in their head and they just seem to worry about it.

They live alone in a 4 bed no friends or family visit. He works she doesn't but refuses to take parcels during the working day, so they ring are doorbell as they order amazon all the time.

They don't like our kids playing near the fence on their side and asked if they could erect a second fence to protect their fence.

Fair enough but I would say what he has put up is a win.

When we lived in an area like that we had high hedges because I hate having to speak to, let alone see neighbours.
