My friend has leased a Seat Arona, delivered had 127 miles on the clock when it was driven to her house. She went to use it for the first time and it is coming up with a battery low warning, not to drive, and a stop start issue. Doesn't sound fixable at the roadside, technician who came to take a look from VAG breakdown can't seem to fix.

This has now cost her a days wages, and she hasn't even got it off her drive. Seat are there looking at the battery and she will get 2 days car hire.

Needless to say she is bit miffed. What is the recourse for a leased vehicle? She keeps going on about the leasing co paying her days wages.

She could have got a taxi to work, might have had more luck claiming that back.

It’s a new car covered by warranty, I’m sure Seat will sort it out. If it breaks down a second time, then she might want to discussions with the lease company about rejecting it.

She has 14 days from 2 Nov when she signed the docs to reject according to paperwork.

Could she not get a bus/train/tram/taxi/lift/bicycle to work?

How long between the car being delivered and first used?

Guy delivered it, he just dropped it off and legged it. Car had error found straight away when started. He must have known.

I would reject it and request a new one. A brand new vehicle which has a fault from the start does not bode well...

Her issue is with Seat, not the lease company.

The lease co might pay her wages to avoid rejection though. It's been taken to seat now, hire car coming. Will update.

I had similar on my V40 when I first got it. That was the separate stop / start battery being run down as it had been shunted round the garage yard for a few weeks and not had chance to charge up. A decent run up the m/way and its been fine since.

Diagnosis dodgy alternator, part coming in on Friday VAG breakdown hire car on its way tonight. Lease company denying any responsibility despite delivering a broken car. My friend is going to tell them she is going to reject unless she received some compo,.

Not surprising these days. Any opportunity for a claim!!

God knows what she’ll do if the thing ever breaks down properly.

It was fairly disappointing for her to be handed the keys to a brand new car, and for it to come up with "do not drive" before it had turned a wheel. And then have to take a day off work as she couldn't use the car she has paid for. And then the leasing company washed its hands via an email. Seems fair enough to me, very poor customer service.

Cars are complicated things. Odd problem inevitable. Taking a day off seems extreme.

Good to hear that it’s going to be fixed in a timely manor.

Last time this happened to me on a work day car was towed in, I was dropped at Enterprise and got on with my work day..

And if the driver who dropped it off had diagnosed a problem, what is he going to do about it?, get his tool box out on the driveway and fit a replacement new alternator that all new cars come supplied with in the spare wheel well?
Turn around and take it back?, And if he did that, then I presume your friend would be screaming for compo as you put it due to failed delivery?
He's purely a delivery driver who is probably paid minimum wage to deliver and couldn't give a st/why should he?
He's paid to deliver it, that's it.

So no delivery paperwork was signed to say the car was OK and it car wasn't checked over by your mate before the driver just abandoned it on the drive, handed the keys over and legged it?

Which lease company is it? I've had ALD and Arval lease cars and I've never had a handover like that. Any warranty issues have always been dealt with swiftly, including me having to wait a full 20 minutes for the AA to come and reattach a battery connection on my last one when it wouldn't start and the dash kit up like a Christmas tree.

Legged it?

Didn't he go round the car with you/her making sure all was in order before she signed the paperwork?
