SORN a car that I've just purchased?
Discussion
I bought a car with a mate yesterday from a private seller. It has a couple of electrical issues. We plan to try and fix it and sell it in a couple of months. If we can't fix it, we'll break it. Something to mess around with, and we might make a few quid.
The car has a valid MOT, but it's not really drivable, so it'll sit on my driveway until we've sorted it out. It was delivered on a recovery truck last night.
Obviously I need to declare it SORN, but I've never done this before. Reading about SORN on the .gov website, I can't do it online because I don't have a V5 in my name yet. Website says I need to apply by post.
Reading the back of the V5C/2 new keeper slip, it says I can apply by post, or wait until I receive the new V5 and apply online.
Is it OK to wait until I receive the new V5, then apply online?

How is there a need for the question in your last line, when immediately preceding it you wrote the answer? The car has a valid MOT, but it's not really drivable, so it'll sit on my driveway until we've sorted it out. It was delivered on a recovery truck last night.

Just to close this:
I received an email from DVLA today to say that I had been registered as the new keeper. Included in the email was a link to SORN the car. I did this using the document reference number from the new keeper slip, and have received a confirmation email confirming SORN.
Good to know that the system works.
