Hi guys

Sold my Mk1 Golf Cab as a project and.listed it fairly I believe. Stated that the hood was torn and included.photo

Ebayer paid 250 deposit on bid of 1750

Didn't come to inspect prior

Came today to collect
After lots of debate with wife he paid cash, filled out V5 and drove off

30 mins later returned to say he didn't want car as it was damp inside (it was due to leak (torn hood) and rain over last few days)
.Plus discovered that heater didn't work (I.didnt know this and hadn't listed)

Gave him his money back

Now he has texted to say he wants his 250 deposit.back too

I am tempted to ignore it

Have relisted the car

thoughts??

Also can I tipex put his details on V5 or do I need a new V5?

Thanks

methylated spirits (clear not purple) on a cotton bud can sometimes erase pen quite well.

You can tippex out the details.

Not sure about the deposit refund. If it was on the basis of "not as described", then i'd probably refund it too.

I would respond along the lines of

will refund once resold less charges for re advertising and also will have to include the difference in new sale price vs old sales price if there is a difference.

Surely once he's turned up and inspected it, decided to purchase it it no longer is an eBay 'not as described' non sale and is now a private purchase?

Should have told him to do one once he'd driven off but as you've already given him the bulk of his money back already, you may as well give him the deposit back (less relisting fees and whatnot).

Oh dear.
Seems you were extremely fair in the first instance, but I feel like others have said you should have refused.
It is/was sold as seen. He came, I assume he inspected it then paid and drove away after putting his name on the V5.
You say it was listed as a project and declared the torn roof. The heater issue is irrelevant and he should have sucked that up.
IMO, refuse his deposit refund stating you lost out on a potential sale from another buyer. And now you have to the faff of getting a new V5 (won't be difficult, but still) and point out he was lucky to get any money back since the private sale of a car is sold as seen and tested.
If however you feel it might be more hassle than its worth then fully refund. Does he/they seem like nutters?

I would contact eBay for advice. If you cancel the sale they will not charge you fees but you need to contact them in a case like this, as they have to know you are not just telling them that to avoid the fees. You will then be able to return the deposit.

p.s. make sure all the parts are on the car when he brings it back...

No, dont seem like nutters but just a little hard work

if it were me, if I've bid and signed up to a deal, I take it on the chin

I've seen your relisted advert. How close to the original ad is it?
Assuming its nearly identical, I would definitely be holding back the deposit.
The current ad makes it very clear you are bidding/buying a car with plenty of work required.
They have wasted your time.

I can't believe you gave him any money back. I'd have been telling him to enjoy his new motor, particularly as it was bought as a 'project' car.
