I was driving up one of the town centre grid roads (Silbury Boulevard) in Milton Keynes at around 4pm this afternoon when I spotted an unusual camera van. I presumed it was a speed camera van, but closer inspection showed it had what is best described as a smallish array of 3 rectangular, adjacent units placed below the rear windows. They were about the size of a halogen intruder light.

It was unusual also as the light wasn't very good at that time, and parked as it was in the middle of the dual carriageway was partially obscured by trees.

Were they ANPR cameras? I hope they weren't speed cameras!!!

That's the blighters! I have looked at the Thames Valley/ Buckinghamshire speed camera sites but they don't seem to even disclose their mobile camera sites.

I have Pocket gps world speed camera alerts and it doesn't show the van as a camera location.

I have a horrible feeling I will be looking as peed off as the plod in the report soon.

Not impressed.

Sorry to hear that!
I had a look at the figures in that article & the issuing of 54,007 notices in just under a year for Leics. seems astonishing to me. About 150 a day. I wonder how the accident rate correlates to enforcement levels?
Keep your fingers crossed!

The relevant correlation is whether increased enforcement results in increased compliance, that should be the aim of enforcement.
Accident rates & severities should be about what the limit is set at (amongst other things).

They like to hang around that area as it's close to the police station. I've seen them before parked on the verge as you head downhill along witan gate towards the dual carriageway of portway, picking off people in a hurry away from the traffic lights. Those bits are a 30 so hopefully you weren't in too much of a hurry.

I was travelling up the hill, outside the Courts (appropriate..). The van was parked in the centre reservation, but on the far side of it, with the cameras pointing downhill, so hopefully it was the downhill traffic they were targeting..

Another vote for Waze?

I use it a lot - having been 'done' for being 4mph (walking pace) over the limit in a rural location.

What was the speed limit and what was the speed you were 'done' for? I've only ever seen one poster on here confirm they were proescuted under the recommended COP guidelines.

It was a couple of years ago, so sadly I don't have the paperwork to conduct the Custard Test or whatever it you might require next.

That brings these borderline prosections into perspective, even if it was 5mph over the limit, its only walking pace...

Do you keep paperwork on speeding offences for 2 years or so? I don't.

It's a very PH trait. Threads start off being really very helpful and then the keyboard warriors, cynics and holier than thou folk start..very frustrating.

Hopefully these things will die off fairly quickly.... I know the old garage door openers excuse never washed and all they did was a criminal charge to a speeding ticket but surely headlights can be easily modified to bugger these things while being used as required at night....

Not usually one to think down these lines, but the idea of mobile camera vans on empty motorways at night is clearly created for profit....
