Mate of mine at work is very concerned. He does 40,000 miles a year, has 6pts already for 2 minor speeding offences earlier this year. He’s been sent a letter to say he was caught doing 65 on a smart motorway which had a temporary speed restriction of 50 mph.

How is this one likely to play out?

Thanks,

All things being equal it's just over where they would normally be offered a course ( Assuming they haven't already had one) but well within fixed penalty territory so 3 points and another £100. 3 times in a year. They will need to be a bit/lot more careful for the next 2 and a bit years.

Apologies for stating the obvious but 3 tickets in a year does look careless.

He will be on 9 points and eggshells for a fair while.

Guys, many thanks for the advice. I think he was really worried it might be 6pts and a ban.
