My friend was driving tonight, there was a merger lane in a 30 zone and he put his foot down in the outside lane past an unmarked police jeep. Immediately the police lights came on and he was pulled.

The officer asked why he was speeding, where he was working, if he uses car daily and took his license. He then mentioned a possible ban under dangerous driving. Officer went back to his car with the license and then drove along side friends car and handed his license through his window and said that's all sorted mate and just drove off.

Is he screwed?

No. Sounds like he got away with it. Presumably he passed the attitude test.

It could be this.

I confess I recently had a little interaction with an officer after he spotted some "enthusiastic acceleration". Initially the chap was quite abrupt & described my driving an unnecessary & asking for trouble. I agreed it wasn't an overly clever move, passed a breathaliser test and was told to "rein it in" before we parted ways.

It does worry me a bit that if he'd been persistent & I'd acted like a tt he could have stretched a non event (in my opinion) into something court worthy.

Naughty naughty, yeah my friend said he apologised etc. so perhaps the officer let him go.

He is of course worried though haha, thanks for the reply

Was the first officer young ? and the one who handed the licence back older ?

Had this once with a young full of beans officer, got pulled by an older officer who did a quick check then basically said the other officer is a young prick who needs to learn to not do everyone for the slightest infringement.

Could be one of 2 outcomes.
1. No action
2. Officer submits Traffic Offence Report for the aforementioned Dangerous Driving.

Both are possible from the description

I’m sure that’s exactly what he said.

His words I can remember but it was something along the lines of 'Dont take any notice of him, we don't, he's always doing this, he will learn'

I had overtaken him (as I remember he was in a red private peugeot and I was in my STi) and he waved a marked car to pull me over, we all stopped and he was quite animated talking to the uniformed officer. The older officer uniform walked over to me after talking to him and sent me on my way. He really wasn't impressed with him.

He did say the young bloke was a police officer, I suppose he could have lied, but cant see why he would.

I've been pulled for Being A Silly Boy, and got a variant of the "how about you clear off somewhere else" response from the copper concerned, probably because I was clearly aware and apologetic regarding it. I suspect the OP's friend has been on the receiving end of this same approach.

I guess that if the van was insured, taxed, MOTd and he hadn't been drinking, DQ'd or wanted for something else it wasn't worth the hassle of booking him for something minor, if they'd checked and found a load of offences they'd have booked him for everything going!
