So i received a notice of intended prosecution from the Police back in November '18 (within 14 days of the offence) - I immediately provided my details as driver of the vehicle but I have not heard anything since then.

I am a bit nervous as I have never received a speeding ticket before & I was (very stupidly) apparently doing 54 in a 30 (although I am still a little perplexed how i did that as there are speed bumps on the road but may i got caught at the end of the section).....either way, was not being the smartest....

From what i have read - there is no time limit for them to get back to me so do I just await my fate in the meanwhile? It is coming up to 2 1/2 months now....

54/30 is too fast for a £100 fixed penalty with 3 points and way too fast for a course.

Court proceedings must be commenced within 6 months of the index offence. It's 2019, so that's usually done by sending you a Single Justice Procedure Notice or Postal Requisition.

oh come now, yes im bored at work, hence my postage diarrhea this afternoon, but 54 in a 30 is cretinous...im no angel but cannot condone any speeding in 30 zones, as 99% of times there built up areas, and 54 is just reckless.

It's especially reckless when the driver isn't even aware that they're doing nearly double the speed limit... taking into account most speedos under-read, clocked at 54mph probably means ~60mph on the dash

no.

vast majority of the 30 will be in a built up area. regardless of time of night still a good chance of pedestrians. be it piss heads crossing the road in dead of night where they shouldn't be, insomniac granny taking her cat for a walk etc.

same could occur in NSL country road, but far less likely

there no justification for doing 54 in a 30 unless perhaps an emergency medical situation

Depends on the road. I know plenty of roads with 30mph limits where 90mph would be safe.

All fair points and I will take the abuse....but as I mentioned, I am a little surprised that I would be able to do 54 on majority of the stretch as there are speed bumps every 200m or so (and I drive a mini).....my only assumption is that I got caught out in the small stretch just before the speed limit changes to 50 ( I had initially put 40 but had checked - it actually goes to 50)

Exactly.

30mph should be reserved for urban areas. The council seem hell-bent on slapping 30 and 40 limits everywhere regardless of the conditions.

I agree, the only part that a speed limit sign plays in whether a speed is dangerous or not is it can create a potential speed differential with other road users. When a limit moves from NSL to 30 its highly unlikely that in the thickness of the speed limit sign what was legal and presumably not an issue suddenly becomes dangerous.

The attempted justifications make no sense.

If the limit is wrong and has no logical reason for being 30 and in the small percentile areas where its 30 for no apparent reason, then tough titties 30 it it is, 54 in it is still reckless. Given as the oracle on all thing spl points out 30 creates a speed differential which creates danger where most people will be adhering to it and one tt doesn't. Even if that wasn't the oracles intended point.

Indeed the fact that there were speed bumps suggests its a built up area, and the most worrying thing is either the lack of awareness of doing that speed or the stupidity of doing it in the first place. I'm not sure which.

If you're so surprised about it, I presume you won't just say you are guilty then? That would be unethical even if it isn't illegal.
