Thoughts on appealing this PCN / Car ticket.
Discussion
Welcome peoples thoughts on this, and what to do next...
Background.
Have lived on this road for 4 years and had a residents parking permit for that time.
What happened.
- Previous parking permit expired on the 6th Jan 2019 and I didn't get around to renewing it until the 9th; combination of being away / general New Year / Kids at home / other stuff on etc.
- Renewed it on the 9th for another 12 months, set the start date form the 6th (when previous year had expired).
- Went to car on the 12th (Saturday) saw I have a ticket / PCN, for parking in a residents bay without a permit.
- Appealed, on the basis of above.
- Got email yesterday saying appeal was turned down, and I needed to pay within 14 days yada yada.. and that I. couldn't appeal again as it was 1 appeal per PCN.
So....
this smacks of money grabbing to me - and totally unfair from the council... of course 'fair' is not really a rational reason in this case...
Anyhow - welcome your collective thoughts on this; should I pay up, or try to pursue it further.
Of course - unable to actually speak to someone.... all has to be done though the electronic appeals process.
thanks all!

sorry - the PCN was posted on the 8th, so yes - in between expiring / renewing.
Agree - I don't have a permit, but I would expect some leeway on this given I've had a permit for 4 years, now have one etc etc.
So you were parking in a permit holders location without a permit, your have to pay the fine. There should be no grounds of appeal. Agree - I don't have a permit, but I would expect some leeway on this given I've had a permit for 4 years, now have one etc etc.
Having a permit for the previous 4 years isn't relevant. Your old permit expired and you didn't renew it before hand. You either have a valid one or you don't.
Post a photo of the front and back of the PCN, and any other relevant information on Pepipoo and see if they can help- there's some brilliant experts on there.
Last year I received a PCN for stopping on a deserted high street when (unknown to me) loading restrictions were in place - I stopped for 1 minute to drop off a bag of donations at a charity shop so was peeved to be charged £55 for the privilege! I uploaded the PCN on Pepipoo and someone spotted the council used incorrect wording in their T&Cs. It seemed like a very minor thing, and the council rejected my initial appeal, but I took it to the independent London tribunals (doesn't cost anything) and won!

The problem, as is always the case, is that people who really haven't done a great deal wrong are a soft and very easy target whilst far greater criminality regularly goes unpunished.
As an example:

A bit of common sense, a bit of leeway, perhaps a reduction in the fine or maybe just "two strikes" system on permits. Any of these seem reasonable to me but cash-strapped councils care not one jot about a reasoned approach.
Yes, I know councils and the police are different entities, but that doesn't detract from the overall point.

It very much detracts from the point. Councils don’t handle burglaries and the police don’t handle resident parking contraventions. As an example:
