Debt strategists - any experience?

A distant relative was about to sign up for a debt strategist company called bell and company to deal with a negative equity loan they have.
I’ve convinced them to hang fire as I’m not sure such a service is any use and that the fee: a few grand upfront and a %age of the savings, is worth it.
Anyone used or know anything about such a service?

How much negative equity are we talking?
Often these debt management companies take a fat fee to arrange an IVA which may not be the most appropriate action.
