Hope someone can enlighten and not sure if you know the area.

Near tickled trout Preston, of Junction 31 M6. There’s a hill which run from the junction into Preston which had average speed camera in yellow.

My question relates to going towards Salmesbury on A59, there’s a camera after all these yellow average specs, that is grey and has two cameras at the top of it also in grey. Is this a speed camera? Not sure if anyone knows the area?

Before the cameras were placed there, I was stopped by a marked police car for doing 51mph down the hill.... on a mountain bike smile

If it is this - https://goo.gl/maps/JKEaA3iq32M2 - I think they are ANPR cameras.

I think what you are looking at is an ANPR camera

Ah cheers, it’s just at the bottom of the hill as you come of the roundabout and start to come up the hill towards salmesbury.

Heard of these speed spike cameras and wondered if it’s one of them!

Is that the latest view from google then? For some reason I thought the camera was on left side of road but without going back I’ll never know!

Fun fact. The cameras were put up not just because of speed, but because someone walked in to the road with her head glued to her phone screen and sadly died as a result.

I think that second map only shows a fraction of the ANPR cameras in use at the moment. I spent a day with NAVCIS last year, and I was stunned at what they have access to....

Useful people to keep on side!

Perhaps I'm missing something, but how are cameras (speed or otherwise) supposed to prevent that??

They are not. Their installation is justified based on location of road fatalities. Does not take into account the reasons why the fatalities occurred. Blame excessive speed for everything!

Installation of speed cameras 'can be' justified by the number of collisions and casualties but they don't have to be.

It would seem that some drivers think speed limits are notional or for other people so they go faster than allowed. Hence SPEED CAMERAS are installed to discourage these heroes.

Despite that drivers exceeding the limit are less likely to be involved in accidents, cause injuries or kill people.

As speed limits are now set by a completely "notional" * process, what do you expect?

  • ie, a process of plucking any number out of thin air that's lower than the current one.
