Hi all,
I live in the UK and have a UK license. Next week however I’m going to test drive a car in Germany (considering importing). I can’t quite work out how to insure myself for the drive.

Presumably insurance is required for a test drive, but all of the places I’ve looked at so far seem to only accept UK license plates.

Does anyone have any experience doing this or any ideas? Or is it just not required and I’m over-thinking it?

Thanks all
J

Ask the seller. I have friends who live in Germany and their insurance covers 'any driver', which they say is standard over there. Best check that includes a driver with a UK Licence.

I also think German insurance is any driver. That's people with teenage kids come on to PH and say "UK insurance is a rip off, why can't we have the German system" and people like me, in their 50s with just me and the wife driving, respond by saying "fk off, I pay a quarter of what I'd have to pay in Germany".

Ha!

This is bringing me on to my next question- how to get insurance to do the drive from Germany to Calais? Can I just approach a German insurer as any German resident would?

Thanks!

Often wondered how fat boy Brewer gets insured to drive cars all over the world.

Does he have some sort of worldwide traders insurance?

Pies.
