Evening all,

I'm unsure where to post this and SPL was the most relevant place I could think of.

I have just had a training course I was due to be on cancelled. It was a 2 month course and we started on Monday.

I had arranged rental of a room in a shared property and had travelled up the week prior to commencement to start some pre-studying.

The college has fully reimbursed me, but I am wondering if I can claim back my rent and travel costs as a reasonable claim for something that is their fault.

I have signed a contract with my landlord for the full 2 months.

TIA for your help!

Not trying to be flippant - but have asked the college if they will pay?

Standard PH answer here is the correct one: more info needed before it is possible to say... did you have a contract, why was it cancelled, did you have the opportunity to cancel your lease without charges etc.?

Appreciate your reply!

Not yet. I'm 50/50 whether I should.
I have booked the time off work to do this course. Ergo, off payroll.
It was a contract with the college, they were to supply me with a course that would provide me with what I need for a promotion. They are down on lecturers due to bereavement and medical issues. So we were only receiving 25% of the course.

What kind of course was this and how was it funded? Also what kind of college (I assume you don't wish to name them)?

It would be unusual for a typical FE type to offer any kind of reimbursement for such cancellations, although the lack of sufficient lecturing staff also sounds somewhat unusual.

As mentioned, we really need a bit more information to be of more assistance.

It is a nautical studies college. Not FE/HE. It's a course that leads to me being able to gain certificates from the MCA, after exams etc. Costs are around £500.

It's a specialised college, so won't name them.

They do however offer specialist courses for the maritime industry. Not just education but specialist training for offshore etc.

The course is privately funded.
