Hi

Basically was travelling on the M62 today, I was in lane 3, I looked ahead at the gantry and it said ‘50’, i was doing just under, however just as I was passing underneath I noticed that lane 2 was “30”.

I Braked lightly as there was a car behind me so didn’t want to slam them on.

Mine definelty stated “50” and this gantry has a camera (or so my Tom Tom alerted)

Am I stuffed or will I be ok, annoying as this was a glitch with there equipment

Why do you think it was a glitch? Is it not possible for different lanes to have different speed limits?

You were travelling below the posted limit for the lane that you were in. Stop worrying. You'll be grand.

Ive never come across different speeds for different lanes, I do 80k miles a year mostly motorway.

Not saying it can’t happen, just I’ve never come across it?

Not with these smart motorways anyway!

Unless it's a dedicated slip-road off the motorway, it's not possible to have different lanes with different limits. If the speed was flashed/recorded, it will show as a discrepancy from the static camera which takes a picture of the gantry limits at the time of the flash if there is any difference in the lane limits.

I have seen it a couple times on the M25 round M23 to A 22 junctions were inside lanes were lower than outside lanes

Probably where it was effectively a slip road, usually identified by road markings seperating those lines from the main M25 carriageway?

Most likely
I didn’t really consider much at the time as I paid more attention to posted limit on my lane

I'm just wondering what you think would happen? Is it in any way likely that you could be held to the lower limit displayed over lane 2 when the limit displayed above your lane displayed a higher speed. Given that there is a camera that takes a pic of the displayed limit?

I have seen it between junctions before where the slip road markings change.

You passed under a sign saying 50 at a speed less than 50. What do you reckon is going to happen?

What I’m wondering is if my lane should have said 30, but due to a glitch didn’t, therefore if the limit was indeed 30 I’d be almost 20mph over, the middle lane said 30, didn’t get chance to check the inside lane.

I wasn’t aware there would be a separate photo of the gantry
