Coming up from Essex to north Wales around midnight last night, came off the cruise control as the variable speed limits were up and down like a wes draws, 50 at one gantry, 40 at the next, 60 at the next, back to 40 etc

Seems I went through a 50 at 56 (according to my speedo) and got a double flash, typically the next gantry was an NSL.

Ticket likely or guaranteed?

My fault I know bit frustrating that the only reason I wasn't using CC was because they didn't seem to have any consistency.may just take the points if a NIP arrives, don't think I could manage to sit in a room of supercilious money makers telling me speed kills.

No way of knowing. If the car is registered in your name you will know in 14 days.

If its a lease/rental it can take six months for it to come through.

It is what it is so you can't change it

Unlikely at an indicated 56 in a 50 IMO. I believe it's possible to get flashed but be below the threshold for NIP.

from my vast experience - aka one motorway speed awareness course where most of the people there had transgressed a motorway variable 50, the lowest actual speed seemed to be 57 (ie 10%+2, by coincidence or otherwise). So on face value with your actual speed likely to be 56 or less, it's surprising.

Also did someone tell us (maybe ghertie) that the camera does a double-flash when the VSL changes? That could have happened or I could be imagining that!

Yep I'll suck it up. Just wondered if the variable speed cameras does a 100% automatic charge or if it has a potential himan intervention.

Frustrating as there was no rhyme or reason for the different speeds between gantries, and yep I'm the RK.

Yes, on Monday evening, the limits on the NW section of the M25 were up and down and on and off with no apparent reason.
Although we just have to obey!

I don't think you'll get a ticket.
56mph is 1mph below the typical NIP threshold.
More than likely your actual speed would be about 54mph at an indicated 56mph.

I got flashed a couple of weeks ago.

Indicated 60 on a 50 limit on the M25.
Yesterday was the 16th day so I think I'm in the clear.

Hope that helps!

Many German cars seem to read 3 mph high.

I would still keep cruise or limiter on, only two quick flicks to go up or down by 10mph.

M42 yesterday only had speed restrictions around where the first fixed camera was placed near J4.

There was no reason for any restriction apart from to bring in the cash.

Obviously trying to capture those drivers not paying attention.

Still getting used to it tbh. Only had the car a couple of weeks. And I don't like the way it surges if you raise it. 50 to 70 without my foot on the throttle is disconcerting!

If you have it fitted use the speed limiter, it wont surge with your foot off and personally I find it better in average speed areas.
