Hi

Backed into a neighbours car on christmas day . Small scuff and cracked the grill.

Had a chat agreed I'd put a grill in it and get a smart repair done. He even mentioned a touch up pen at the time but I offered a smart repair. I put the grill in between Xmas and new year and passed 2 smart repair people's details over.

Can't get a smart repair done as he's not any where to get it done so has now got a quote for 700 quid ish to paint the bumper.

I'm a bit miffed as if I'd know I'd just have bounced it to my insurers as my xs is low n I'm protected no claims.

So what's next. Can I call my insurers n advise or do I just move😀

Call insurers if that's what best suits you.

It shouldn't be a problem.

Regardless I damaged his car.

Just don't want my insurance co to be dicks as it's 2months ago.

Oh n I swapped cars but I'm on the same policy....

As he’s being a dick, at least you get the satisfaction of knowing his insurance will probably go up too.

Your excess is zero on third party damage.

Might go up. Depending on his normal level of premium, if there is an increase it could be £20 in year 1, dropping over future years. Maybe £50 in total.

Can you swap cars with your neighbour while you get the smart repair done? Or hire a car for him for a couple of days?

It's just messy

What I had thought was a smart repair is now a milestone wish I'd just reported it rather than thinking for both our sakes it would be easier.

He's not wanting to go through the insurance as it wasn't declared in December.

I'm on the same policy but with a car change. What do you think the insurance (esure) say if i call them guy works away a bit hence the delay

I'm worried about bouncing it to the insurance co but surely it's not going to alter anything?

My local ChipsAway (which is actually a proper unit with heated spraybooth etc.) would charge me £200 for a full bumper respray ...
[Sadly, I know this because my neighbours & visitors to my street regularly scuff bumpers etc. whilst parking or leaving frown ]

If he's not willing to help with the smart repair people then tell him you'll have to go through insurance, it's his choice.
