Credit card fees charged to customers.

I thought these were banned from last year, ie a business could not charge extra for using a credit card, despite of course it costing the business a merchant fee in many cases?

Is there a rule of what transactions can and cannot be subject to a fee?
It's just that I just taxed a car, and although I did not use a credit card, was surprised to see our good honest folk at Swansea still want to charge £2.50 for using a credit card? Or has this law not yet come into play? Or is it more a case of one rule for one......

If I understand it correctly, booking or admin fees can still be charged, but that has to apply to all methods of payment.

Per a post from a forum last feb (2018), it appears that the charge shows on the website, but is not actually charged! WTF!

"For those taxing vehicles this month please note the DVLA site still shows the card charge - but it is not added at the end.
Result! "

So over a year later and they still show it this way, no doubt to "discourage" the uninitiated to not incur a charge for them!> What wkers. Talk about underhand.

Strangely enough I posted about this not long after the rules changed.

Just eat went from charging a card fee to an admin fee. Which is apparently exactly the same cost but is allowed. Talk about circumventing the rules.

I now just pay my favourite takeaway places via bank transfer or cash. No issues. No fees. Stuff just eat.

I paid mine on my Amex card last week, no charge.

They charge for business credit cards.

The fee is only for a business credit card, I taxed my car recently using my personal credit card and a fee wasn't added.

Did you select the correct card type from the drop down menu?

It showed £2.50 for corporate card and for Visa card, but not visa debit. Apparently if you use Visa credit, it wont actually post the charge, but it suggests it will on the payment screen. Pretty naughty I reckon.

FYI - business to business is exempt. If I use a CC to pay a supplier, they charge me a fee. I looked it up and it is legit. Only business to consumer has to be fee free.

Its actually a business card that can be subject to a feee - a personal card used for business cannot be charged a fee - so if a sole trader uses their personal card to buy plumbing supplies for example.

Be fair - the DVLA cannot afford to change the software - every spare public pound is being spent on sorting out the unmitigated cockup HM Government is making of Brexit.
Otherwise how would you explain the appalling state of our road surfaces?
