Permanent ban for persistent drink driving?

A MOTORIST caught drink driving for the fourth time has received a community punishment.

By the time Anthony Love Lawson, 47, finishes his latest driving disqualification, he will have spent more than 10 years serving bans imposed for drink driving.

Is a permanent ban ever an option?

The only way you prevent this is prison,

If people want to drive, nothing will stop them, licences, bans, even house arrest type scenarios.

Anyone can buy a car cash and drive it f they want, he risks even more by doing so driving with no licence etc, but if he wants to. Only way to stop it prison.

I work in the logistics industry and view licences day in, day out.

It really isn't uncommon to see one, two, if not three DD convictions on some licences.

We also process applications for LGV/PCV provisional entitlements. DD is never an issue when applying, however a CU80 conviction (using mobile telephone whilst driving) typically commands a visit to the traffic commissioner for a telling off before the entitlements are issued.

however if i'm correct its a major disqualification to get other jobs esp in the Finance and Security/Defense type roles,as all those roles ask you the question of prior conviction and when they see a 'YES' the hiring managers/HR just strike it off even if they dont have a policy to not disqualify such applicants

There was a crash recently in our village where a drunk driver swerved to avoid a car and hit another car. This was at 6pm on a Saturday evening feet away from a zebra crossing and the local shops. The driver got out of his car to see what he had done and then tried to get back in to drive off, but luckily a crowd had gathered by then and stopped him. Turned out he had been drinking at a nearby rugby match all afternoon and had only just got his licence back from his last DD ban. Some people just will not learn.

I've always had the idea of the police recruiting a specialist team just to focus on drivers using their telephone.

Surely they could spot and pull at least one car within 60 seconds of being on the road. A few of those per hour with on-the-spot fines would surely sustain their wages and costs to train them up, plus surplus back into the system.

I see so many on their phones while driving. I don't care so much about those that text while sat still in traffic waiting to leave a car park for example, even though I wouldn't myself. It's the ones I see on the move that really piss me off, I'd pretty much instaban them.

I think you'll find it hard to find people who agree with drink driving or using a phone while driving on this forum. If that means we're described as above then so be it.

Well for starters the Police will not consider if you ha DD ban before nor banks as far as i know

I got done for it 10 years ago. Lesson learned. It did prevent me from getting a job I wanted on a few occasions whether they said it or not. What surprised me is the amount of other people that have been caught too. Also, the amount of people that haven't been caught is quite alarming too. I'm sure most people know someone that's turned up at work the day after a night out and they're blasé about it cos they've not been caught. What I don't agree with is the calls for it to be made absolutely zero tolerance - there needs to be a tolerance. I don't even drink now though alcohol causes too many problems for some of us.

Drink driving where I live(not uk) is common.
