Car finance query
Discussion
Long story short
Car stolen on the 7th Dec
Repairs owned by a body shop as designated by insurer
Car sent to land rover for electronics repair mid Jan
Wiring harness needed and ordered by land rover
Part received 4th April after multiple delays
Advised today wrong part received so another needs ordering - no timescale
I have a courtesy car from the body shop (Aygo) but can't have pets etc in it and it's cr@p
I've lost patience with land rover who have been appalling.
Given I have finance through them (PCP) am I within my rights to advise I'm stopping payment until I get my car back or they provide a replacement. Car is under 2 years old.
They have had the car for 3 months now with no end date to sort so feels unreasonable to pay for something I have not got.
Thanks for any advice

No - It’s not the finance companies fault you’re without a car.

Thanks both
There must come a point where it is unreasonable time wise to complete a repair?
Land rover don't give a monkey's and have not apologise for the weekend part being ordered
Their repair bill is close on 10k so it's not a small job!
There’s def a point if so long to repair that the pcp payments for a high end car while driving a budget car represent a loss that your insurance should compensate you for.... maybe give them a ring and ask them? There must come a point where it is unreasonable time wise to complete a repair?

Not that it helps you much, but the repairer is entitled to a reasonable time to make the repair. What is reasonable isn't specifically defined, but must take account of all the circumstances of your case.
But in my opinion you would struggle if they ordered the parts in a reasonable time (taking account that there might have been some liability issues to sort out first that you weren't involved in), the required parts have a long delivery time, and somebody else delivered the wrong parts despite the correct ones being ordered. They have provided you with a replacement in the meantime.
On the plus side, your vehicle will have a much lower mileage on the clock when you hand it back.

Thanks again all for comments. It is appreciated.
Having been without my car for 4 months now with probably another 2-3 months wait I'm getting a little tetchy
The courtesy car is fine most of the time but not being able to have pets in it is an issue as I have a dog. It's small so not suitable for work journey (can't fit things in the boot) etc etc
Given the way the car is depreciating it will end up a write off given the fix hasn't started !

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. You’ve been very patient so far, but this delay seems to me (a lay person in terms of insurance and mechanical repairs) to be unreasonable. Start complaining in writing and at each stage ask for details of how to escalate the complaint if it is not swiftly resolved, including via an independent ombudsman. If your main issue is the pets in the car or the size of the car for such a protracted period of time, say so. Consider hiring your own replacement if it’s such a big deal (if it’s not, stop moaning about it) and ask the ombudsman to make the insurer pay for it.
(Or just put pets in the Aygo and ask the insurer to pay the valet bill that you arrange before it goes back).

I had similar dealings with a RRS (bought not PCP) several years ago, albeit the wiring loom not the courtesy car. The car was under 6 months old and ended up spending a couple of months inside the garage.
On complaining I had the opposite treatment and they rented a VW, 3.0 V6 Touareg, complete with roof bars and winter tyres as I was driving to Austria for the family ski trip. More than happy as I managed a big saving on my own cars mileage, as well as the need to purchase winter tyres/snow chains etc. When I eventually decided to change cars I was offered a £500 discount voucher for any Landrover/Jaguar vehicle.
Edited to say: maybe I should read the post properly first, this is an insurance issue and not Jaguar Land-rovers problem. Albeit they certainly seem to be dragging their heels.
