Worth disputing inaccurate ticket?

I got a ticket the other evening for doing 49 in a 30. I was amazed when the police told me the stretch of road they had seen me speeding on was a 30, I had assumed it was atleast a 40, probably 50. the stretch after the next roundabout is 70mph, which is where they actually caught up and pulled me over as they had been hiding in a car park.

So i just looked at where they said they had 'caught me' and it was here.

Ticket says 'driving at 49 in a 30' . I was still over the limit but 49 in a 40 probably doesnt look as bad on my record.

Just get on with my life, or fight it on a technicality? If they dont know the limit on the road they are watching, how should the public

ETA: or maybe i should go back there and make sure the limit hasn't been dropped even further than 40 since this picture was taken!

It's the A956 at the exhibition centre in Aberdeen.

At the risk of pointing out the bleeding obvious, the spot where that photo was taken is indeed in a 30 limit.

Also streetview imagery is 2 years out of date there...

What is the speed limit EXACTLY where that photo is taken? I'd imagine it isn't 40 as it would be signposted further back. If you were caught on the photographer's side of those 40 signs might you have been in a 30?

I mean that they caught me on the stretch that is in the photo, not the stretch where the 'photographer ' was standing

I am sure you are right about it being 30mph on this side of the speed signs but they say they saw me a bit further up the road. i just took the screen shot here to show the speed limit signs.

Yeah i think you are right, pretty bloody mean giving me a ticket for less than 10mph over a 40, but within their rights

I once got done for 46 on a 40 stretch of D/C..You would think i would have learned by now..

If you're absolutely sure about the location and the current limit in place (double-check the paperwork you've got) then certainly worth taking up.

49 in a 40 would usually get an SAC offer or 3 points. Pretty sure 49 in a 30 is 4-6 points and around twice the fine.

That's the thing. the ticket says 49 in a 30, and they said it was a 30 but they still only gave me an FPN for 3 points/£100 . they said another couple of MPH would have been a game changer.

I might as well just accept my mistake, and theirs.

If you were clocked before the 40 signs reaching the end of the 30 limit? just wondering in what way is the ticket inaccurate?

Again, they told me they 'caught' me about a hundred yards up the road from this photo. I just used this photo to show the signs.

Past the signs. There is a Mc D's further up on the left that the mentioned, I think they were in the car park.

i am just going to take it on the chin..it's not like I can dispute the speed I was going, I don't have a dash cam or anything so it would be my word against two cops with a speed gun.

I asked them how do I know that it was my speed on the speed gun and they assured me that I could take their word for it and there were two of them...

With the ever reducing speed limits everywhere, you sure it is still a 40 there and not a new 30?

My car has the GPS based speed limits on the display and nowadays it is more often wrong than right (car is 1 year old ...).

About 20 years ago I was pulled over on the M6 for 77mph after being followed for 2 miles or so.
His explanation was a simple, and truthful, "We both know you were doing much more than that when we spotted each other...."

I couldn't argue with the logic and took the 3 points.

i just don't know where they could have been hiding a traffic car if that is the case! The only place to hide would be further up on the left. But hey, maybe you are right. They could have been hiding up the road and pointing the gun through the trees to get people as they go through those signs.

I guess it doesn't matter.

Aberdeen is crazy for speed cameras fixed and mobile. Glad I no longer drive through there regularly.
