If you receive a SP30 for speeding on a public road (not a single sign in site - didn't appeal it just took hit and paid)

Its time for renewal is it best to wait for the insurance company to write to you with the renewal price first? then notify them? or login in to my insurance websites portal and add it to my profile.

Just inquiring as I want to avoid a major hike in insurance price! Has anybody got any experience of 3 points on their licence? did the insurance premium rocket sky high or not? (12+ years of driving & 10 years no claims bonus)

I understand I may have to shop around in order to find the best price. I have read some forums where some people do not even notify there insurers.

The t&c's say immediately.

Whether the price goes up depends.

It might be that you are at an age where the price comes down because statistics might show those that get points suddenly become less likely to crash.

Or not.

But tell.them AsAp

I'm not sure how you know that unless you've read the OPs terms?
Also I'm fairly sure that previously people in the know (twig?) have been definitive that you only have to notify at renewal time as governed by higher level 'insurance rules'.

Read your policy - chances are, you are required to notify of any convictions / FPNs at renewal.

Choose to keep the insurer totally in the dark at your peril.

Yes I have added it into the portal online so my fingers are now crossed.

Anybody got any experiences? in terms of price / % of increase after an FPN?

Yes. It was peanuts.

It's far more nuanced than that, and different algorithms apply to different circumstances. A 55 y/o in Devon with a 1.0 Fiesta and a single speeding may not be charged any extra at all, whereas a 19 year old with a Corsa VXR in London might get hit with a huge hike.....by the same insurance company.

And you don't have to tell your insurer until renewal, regardless if they ask to be told mid term. You can tell them mid term of course, and they can't charge you extra insurance premium until the renewal, but they can charge an admin fee to note it.

I've today just re-insured 5 vehicles, with a different company for the first time in 11 years. Since this time last year, I've received an SP30, had a claim against me for £2700 paid out, and my other half, who uses one of the vehicles on the policy has had an SP50. We notified the ins.co. immediately each time, on the basis that there was no reason not to, regardless of whether or not it was a stipulated requirement.

My renewal with the previous company would have been an extra £130 over last year for all of that, which to be fair, at a total of £1560 was still ok. I spoke to A-Plan, it went down to £1375, bizarrely with the same insurer, ( a company called Markerstudy in both instances ) and just as bizarrely, with significantly lower excess on each vehicle, down by £500 on the Evo alone, and generally better overall terms. Having spent 6 months sweating about this years premium, I'm pleasantly surprised.
