Diabetes- Restricted license

Hi all 
I was diagnosed with diabetes aproximately 6 years ago. After trying different medications to stabilise the condition, I finally ended up taking one injection of insulin a day. This works great and the condition is well under control. When I notified the DVLA about taking insulin I was given a restricted license. Due to this I can't drive anything over 3.5T.
Now I have my diebetes stable and under control, can I reapply to drive vehicles up to 7.5T? which is what I was able to do before.

I've dealt with the DVLA medical team quite a lot along the years.

Give them a call, they are really quite helpful.

Forgot to say, don't report anything online, the computer system errs on the side of caution, ring them and speak to someone.

They pulled a lot of the driving allowances years ago.

And I’m reasonably sure any new driver has the same issue.

A licence issued before 1997 had medium sized vehicles (C1 & D1) as part of it. Any licence issued after 1997 is only for car, category B. This includes any new licence at 17 or test pass and any new ones after a medical revocation or restriction.

Insulin treated diabetes will result in the issue of a 1 to 3 year licence, the legislation requires it. So when the new licence is issued it only has category B & the others are lost.

You can apply for the old ones back but you will have to meet the much higher standards for full sized lorry & buses. You will need to read these and keep very good detailed electronic results of your blood sugars and there will be a number of medicals

Ive rung the dvla this morning and they're sending some forms out. So we'll see where that takes me.
