Average Speed Camera Question

Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere.

I know that the camera measures speed over a set distance, how does it take in to account speed limit changes that happen between two cameras.

On the A616 Stocksbridge Bypass as you go past the reservoir the limit is 60 then you pass the camera the limit then changes to 50 and then to 40 before you pass the next camera.

So how does it calculate your average speed.

Are you sure they're average speed? Could they be the start of 2 average speed zones?

I suppose even with those changing limits, if you stick to them rigidly then it will still take you a certain amount of time to pass through. They may be able to measure that?

My thought is that in this situation, the average speed zone becomes unenforceable, on the basis of which of the limits are your being accused of breaking?

I'd be interested to hear learned views on this as well.

The average speed cameras are only on the 60 limit.

The 50 and 40 cameras are just single stand alone cameras not average speed cameras.

The photos of the 40mph are old and have been removed the road next now has the style as shown on the 60 mph section.

I can only guess the 60 cameras are separate. If travelling East-West, after the 60 zone there are two villages with new average cameras, each have one entry and one exit camera. Again, I guess that they work independently.

I'd also be interested in any more info.

"X distance at 60, Y distance at 50, Z distance at 50...what would the max allowable average speed be over the whole distance?" Perhaps...

I didn’t think Specs had approval for variable limits... could easily be wrong though.

The sum is easy, even without a computer But it doesn't matter does it? You can do 90 on a motorway, then slow to 50, but a bit too late, to end up with an average of 79 mph. You won't be charged with doing 90.
