In a first, it wasn't actually me but my mate driving my car.
just before Christmas, caught by an unmarked copper in the A303 in a dual carriageway section, around 10am, sunny, light traffic. Speed recorded via a handheld device 109mph.
Court case held yesterday and result of some severe plea bargaining and a whole heap of humble pies he ended up with a 14 day ban and £250 fine. A very, very lucky chappie in my books. This was a one off as he's had a clean licence since getting it 30 years ago and didn't normally break limits as severe as this was.
for me the most shocking thing has been the general level of malaise around the ban from employers and insurers. He's a named driver on my Mustang (which he was caught doing this in, I hasten to add) I rang yesterday to have him removed from the policy, as it turns out, they only cmd an entrees £30 to keep him on the policy till April next year! His employer has recommended he takes two weeks hookah then returns to his driving job once the bans complete!
I was always under the impression a van was world ending, it appears times have changed and its now almost as acceptable as points.
Not after any judgement on the situation, he knows he was stupid , hes done his time and hopefully will learn from this, just thought I'd share the experience.

14 day ban IMO is nothing, if one of our employees got one of those for speeding I'm pretty sure we'd say the same thing. Have a holiday and don't do it again sort of thing.
Banned for drink driving on the other hand would be the opposite side of the scale, here's your P45 good luck in the future.

The police car was on the opposite carriageway and had to do a u turn then catch up. He was actually doing the limit when the he caught up and pulled us.
his words were, "I heard you before I saw you".
Wasn't a sustained speed, just whilst he overtook. Probably played a big part in his sentence.

Was getting worried that any old car parked up may have someone operating a camera and you wouldn't know about it until the postman came the following week.
Whenever I've made changes mid policy it's only ever the admin fee I pay, it's renewal time they push the price up.
My girlfriend was a main driver on my insurance and was in a fault accident in her car. When I told my insurance they just charged me the £20 admin fee and nothing else, but on renewal 4 months later they put the price up £300

It happened in Wiltshire and was dealt with by Salisbury courts. Roads were dry, it was the exhaust note he heard as opposed to the road noise.
It was a fair cop, no excuses, he was absolutly stunned when he was told the speed, as was I. It certainly didn't seem like we were going that fast. No vehicles shooting past at great knots to our left and certainly no white knuckle drive. The cars very sedate well into 3 figures so it's easily done. Not making excuses, just saying it how I saw it. 109 mph is excessive on a British dual carriageway, no two ways about it. Just wanted to give people the result of the hearing.

Why on earth are people telling their insurers about accidents , or convictions incurred since the last renewal, mid term???
You are under no obligation to do so, in law, and they cannot charge you extra until the next renewal. But they can charge you an admin fee to note the info!!!
Just make a diary note to tell them at your next renewal, and save yourself the admin fee.

. Employer was happy for me to take 2 weeks leave so had no issues there either!B3NNL said:

I know a number of people who have totted up enough points to get a ban and their work was accommodating. I think it is recognised now that a ban is no longer such a big deal as there are ample examples of people totting up for 5x 35 in a 30 over a three year period, bearing in mind a huge number of us are likely to do that in a couple of days (probably in one journey)!B3NNL said:

a little confused. The cop was stationary in his car on the other carriage way or driving towards your friend or out of the car with the speed gun and then drove to catch up?his words were, "I heard you before I saw you".

I thought the police had to be stationary to use the speed gun?
Chase your friend so to stop/get reg number ? do you think he got the plate from the other side or only when he caught you up? 303 know it well. used to drive enthusiastically on my way down to Cornwall each month.
I’m not for one second think your making this up OP.
But how the heck can a cop on a duel carriageway ..... on the other side of the central reservation. Clock you (wasn’t the barrier in the way for that?). , take your Reg number, start his motor, speed off in the opposite direction before finally getting on your side of the carriageway, catch you up (when even if you’d dropped to 90 would need his foot to the floor for a good distance) and then when caught up prove it was you?
Mustang aside, there’s more than one in the UK. Talk about a determined copper.
