Caught speeding in first 2 years

Hi all,

Colleague has been caught speeding; 63mph in a 50mph.

He has only been driving for 9 months. The NIP talks of a course to avoid points; is this applicable to drivers within 2 years?

It's within the criteria for a course so if it's offered he should take it. 6 points in the first two years means his licence reverts back to provisional.

Yes. 63/50 is within the threshold for a course. Otherwise, fixed penalty 3 points / £100.

Strictly speaking, no-one is ever "entitled" to a course. It is offered at the discretion of the police.

He should be. The only difference in the two years is that 6 points is back to provisional. The threshold to a course should not really change depending on first two years or not.
