Uninsured driver police report delay - 4 months and counting
Discussion
Hi all
Hoping someone can give me some advice.
In mid-February my parked car was clipped by a car being chased by the Police. The guy had squeezed onto a pedestrian walkway at the end of a dead end which ends in our flats car park. The driver was apprehended nearby, and I got a police reference at the time and also took pictures of the cars at the time. The police wouldn't give me the drivers identity but did confirm he was uninsured.
I had my car repaired ok, it was only minor damage, however I did have to pay my excess of £300 to the body shop.
The claims department are saying that they have put a request in to the Met Police for a collision report that will confirm this is an uninsured loss, and then they will be able to refund my £300.
My problem is this was over 4 months ago now, and when I ring the insurers for an update they just say they can't do anything as they still have not received the report. I can see on the Met Police website I could request it as an individual but it costs nearly £160!!!
I cannot find any useful departmental contact details to speak to anyone at the Met about this - can anyone advise how I can check if the insurers request did actually came through and at what stage it's at for processing? Is this a normal timescale? They do say 12 weeks but this is now 18 weeks.
Is there anything I can do to speed things up and get my money back for something I was totally innocent in? It still boils my piss these things go down as Fault claims - my renewal quote was absolutely ludicrous!

Just as an FYI - the police WILL NOT release a police report until any intended prosecution has been completed. It doesn't matter whether you or your insurers apply for it, they just won't send it to you. This can sometimes take many months.
While you are waiting, why not lodge your claim with the police commissioner for the area?, or at least state the facts and that you will be making a claim, and what information you further need to complete the claim. I would not let things go on without some ‘stake in the ground’.Pica-Pica said:
