Parent and child bays at supermarkets?
More often than not I've seen couples or just individuals park in these spaces without a second glance. From what I understand it is a ticket able offence but what if you just said to the parking attendant, 'I'm picking my child up from the shop to take home'.
The child seat or lack thereof cant be the only grounds for a ticket or not

They're just a cynical marketing ploy designed to make impressionable mothers (mainly) believe the supermarket cares about them. I'm sure the odd person does get a ticket on the basis that signage in the car park suggests that we enter into a contract to abide by their petty rules every time we park there but unless the store has CCTV evidence of their whole stay and the glaring lack of sproggage, I reckon it must be quite simple to have them quashed.

The spaces are wider so you can swing your doors open further to get the kids out

It's not inconsiderate to not want your car door dinged. In fact its being very considerate to the manufacturers of the car by keeping it in good condition.Mainly inconsiderate people parking in them, oh and lazy people who can't walk another 10 steps, entitled to it etc etc

I did it by mistake at Asda Huyton when my missus made me stop while we on our way back from visiting relatives. The spaces didn't seem any larger (I've even looked at them on Google Earth and they appear the same!) and I thought the signs referred to the bays on the other side of the divide. More often than not I've seen couples or just individuals park in these spaces without a second glance. Literally hadn't stopped and someone was banging on the window pointing out my error. I was then blocked in by another car so told my wife to get out and go shopping while I moved the car. They guy blocking me in got out of his car and said he HAD to park in the space I was in as he had kids in the car. Then the trolley lad appeared and wondered if I had kids with me and if not then I should park elsewhere.
Felt lucky to escape with my life.

It seems taking young kids to the supermarket is/could be a pain. I always wonder why, the majority of the time, people who have to take their kids shopping don’t order online?

Besides I like the human interaction side of it and I feel it's better for the little one to see different faces. Better than having them with me than sat at home watching peppa pig whilst I wait for a van to arrive.
Back to the point, child and baby spaces are there just to assist parents. If there are none available I just park in a quiet part of the car park so I can open the door fully. Usually though I'll come back to someone parked 5cm away from me preventing me getting him back in.
Loved the one time I took him in my elise to morrisons though. Could see someone starting to go red in the face until I got him out!

You want to try parking in a disabled space when there's only you in the car (and a 'boy-racer' car at that, for extra outrage) and you can walk off perfectly able-bodied. I'd put the badge on the dashboard and then trotted off into Tesco to the sound of much tutting, head shaking, rolling of eyes from onlookers all seemingly outraged that I had "no respect" and was "denying a disabled person from using it". I was actually returning to pick up my wheelchair bound mother who was waiting for me in the foyer after I'd dropped her off an hour earlier to do her shopping while I went and ran an errand to the other side of town. It was quite amusing watching them all shuffle off without further comment when they saw me lifting my mother into the car and packing the wheelchair away.
The biggest culprits of door dings are probably kids (or the parents of the kids). So let them have their special wide spaces, keep them all in one area and reduce the likelihood of dings occuring in the rest of the car park where most of us here would be parked. Mind you, if I go to a supermarket with my toddler, I never use the special spaces. I always park near the entry/exit of the car park to make escape quicker as you dont get held up by those drivers who take half an hour to park in a space whilst blocking the road in the process.

I once used one when I went shopping with my Mum. She was in her 80s, I was in my late 50s. I was still her 'little boy' as far as she was concerned and like a good little boy I held her hand as we crossed the car park; it brought a huge smile to her face.RipTrip1 said:

A lot of them are done operated and enforced by ANPR. So difficult to for entry and exit camera to tell whereabouts you have parked (if you have actually parked)More often than not I've seen couples or just individuals park in these spaces without a second glance.
