Recourse after purchasing car that has a complete respray

Hi,

I picked up a 2016 Aston on saturday, close to 100k. On the day the car was polished by them and looked great.

Today after washing it, the polish/wax has gone and can see how poor the paint work is. I took it to my detailer and he confirmed every single panel including the roof has been repainted.(can see dust and sanding marks under the paint, peeling laquer etc)

Clearly something serious has happened to the car in the past. The roof lining has been refit also, where it meets the roof line near the rear screen you can see under the lining.

I part ex'd my previous car, paid a deposit via CC and funded the balance via PCP finance.

What recourse do i have gents?

Might depend on advertising - could argue it's been mis-sold.

Credit card good as you can use them to fight your corner if needed.

Have you checked if it's been salvage? Vcheck.co.uk has been highlighting a number of write offs that don't appear on HPI checks.

I would tell the dealer you are rejecting it foryour above reasons and go from there.

Funnily enough I bought a DB9 that had had repaint work from a main Aston agent a couple of years ago.

I discovered the problem right away and I have to say that Aston Martin were absolute gentlemen in their response with a full refund on the table right away.

I have not repurchased an Aston since but I will because although I’m now not an owner I am absolutely a believer.

I hope you will have similar experience.

Thanks Julian, the complication here is that it is a Independent dealer, albeit pretty well known.

If it’s HPI clear, it may have been damaged but not registered.

The selling garage are under a duty to declare whether the vehicle has been an insurance writeoff and been categorised but for less serious damage, I don’t think they have to declare.

How was the car described in the advert?

If they’re a decent indie, possibly they will do the right thing.

You said you took it to the dealer and he confirmed your suspicions,

Now you are saying the dealer was closed.

You said you took it to the dealer and he confirmed your suspicions,

Now you are saying the dealer was closed and you spoke to him on the phone.
