Dart Charge penalty
Discussion
I made a couple of crossings in May and paid the charges in one payment. I have the receipt.
I am fairly sure the payment was made on time, but the receipt is for about 36 hours after the time when I think I paid it.
The total due was £5 and the sum they are demanding is £107.
They claim that my £5 just shows as a credit against the vehicle and it is still there.
Despite hearing reports on here about the Dart people being quite accommodating, they didn't seem that way this morning. I have appealed, obviously, but it is irksome. One would have thought that some common sense would prevail and it should be obvious that the credit on the account is for the crossings made.
Anyone else had this?
Receipts are dated and timed when they're made so you paid too late. You must have also missed the reminder letters they send you.
I had similar. I thought I had credit for a crossing but realised too late it was for my other car. I paid for the crossing about 36 hours after I made it but still got a reminder letter about a week later saying I hadn't paid. The letter offered me the chance to simply pay for the crossing. When I rand them they told me the late payment was simply a credit against future crossings and I could either pay for crossing made or challenge it. I paid for the crossing .

Is it possible the card payment didn’t go through directly? I’ve checked my card statement and it too says the day after I think I paid. But even if I did pay late by 12 hours they still had the money on account to pay what was owed. I am not sure why it cannot be used to pay the debt instead of being left on the account. £107.50 appears a lot for a trivial matter, even if they are right.
It is of course possible that they will see my representation and agree to waive the penalty. I’ve been over that crossing many times without problem. Nor have I ignored any letters, though I note that they claim to have sent one, the date being well after the receipt of payment.
